Kings has Barefoot Contessa mixes that cost as much as ten bucks, a threshold I never thought I'd see for cake mix. I wonder how they are. Anyone know?

I dunno, but the vanilla cake mix from Trader Joes is divine at about 3.59.

You can probably make the same cake as Barefoot Contessa for less than 1/2 the price. Like she doesn't have enough money.

I just looked online and saw that one of them was for the coconut cupcake mix, including the frosting. I've made them from scratch, and they're awesome. And i was actually at the Fancy Food show at Jacob Javitz a few weeks ago, and they were giving out samples. (Ina Garten was there in person earlier, but i missed her.) I assumed the samples were made from scratch as well, but it makes sense now that they were probably from the mix, which i didn't know existed. They tasted just like mine, which took hours and at least $10 to make.

The Barefoot Contessa cookbooks are some of the few that i trust to have recipes turn out well the first time. I'd be more confident trying out a mix from her, than Emeril's spaghetti sauce, etc.

Yes, I'm sort of tempted. I don't usually use mixes because you can almost always taste that they're mixes, and I know that some of my recipes cost a lot to make. So I wonder about these...maybe they'll go on sale!

I've had that TJ's mix -- I always thought that was a bit pricey, but I think my mental pricing must be out of whack!

Trader Joes Banana Bread mix (~$1.99, if I remember right) + using a mashed banana instead of oil + adding sliced banana to the mix = Something Delicious!
