A bunch of us went to Sona on Saturday evening for dinner, 5 adults 3 kids...

Top points:
- They had no problems with kids, so all you Gaslight-haters should love this place :-) There were many tables with families, with pre-teen kids
- Food was pretty good (not like Mogul), but faaar better than Neelam
- Price was not an issue, for a sit down place with decent service I don't mind paying $13 an entree
- BYO, a liquor shop is right across from Sona
- Service, very iffy, maybe it will improve, maybe not, this is not the palce to go on your first date
- AC was not working and they said that it should be OK by Monday, this PISSED me off, they should not open the room to people in middle of summer if they dont have an AC, start with limited service, fix the bugs and then open it all up...
- Rice was served gratis... THEY READ MOL ;)

We ordered:
Appetizers:
- Papdi chaat, not bad, the chutneys were nice and not bland
- Hariyali Chicken Kabab - very nicely done
- Sheek Kabab - not spiced enough very meaty
- BYO weiss beer Shandy (sprite from the restaurant)
- Sweet lassi - the usual

Main course:
Kadai Paneer - nice
Bhindi (Okra) Masala - sadly had the same gravy as the paneer, otherwise quite nice
Daal Tadka - Pretty standard
Bhuna Lamb - Tasty - Very oily, but bhunaa means sauteed/fried so oil is expected
Some Chicken (I forget) - not bad, average
Breads: Roti, Pudina Paratha, average, but substantial
Rice: Jeera rice, on the house

No dessert... (the kids got cranky, no ac remember)

Total approx $120 before tip...

Overall: A nice addition to SOMA, a decent sit down place that is not Pasta/Pizza/Burgers/Diner, ... Service needs to improve... I will go there maybe once every 2 months or so... have heard that their lunch buffet is great, should try it out... Excellent location...

Any other realistic reviews?

thanks for the review, Hillsider.
I think $120 plus tip is VERY reasonable for 5 adults and 3 kids

Yes, eight people eating for $120 is very good! Kids, no kids, doesn't matter, esp since kids order bevs while adults might BYOB.
