difficult to assess based on your not mentioning what class of airfare, what class of hotel, what kind of car you are renting and number of adults, no? way too many variables involved. |

Hopefully, you'll spend part of your Tuscany time in Siena. It's been 10 years since our trip, but for our 10 day trip, we didn't spend anywhere near that much...more like $4,000 [sans car as we didn't need it...we took the train from Padua to Florence to Siena to Rome]. |

We are going in Sept- Oct. $1,400 air for two (coach), about $2,500 for 11 nights hotel- typically 4 stars, $200 for high-speed trains. So, about $4,000 or so for 11 nights. |

Eurostar between Rome and Florence is just under 30 euros (at least it was in July). I second the Siena recommendation. A favorite city of mine. Secondo me, you don't need a car for Tuscany, unless you'll be traveling around a lot and want to see a bunch of towns. Depends on the details of your trip, of course. |

We travelled first class on the EuroStar from Rome to Naples in June, 2 tix for $39 Euros, they were having a sale. The trains there are heavenly compared to our NJTransit/Amtrak.... |

I wa sincluding multiple trips on high-speed trains. Rome - Naples, Naples- Florence and then Florence to Vienna so that' swhy I estimated around $200 total for trains. Right now each leg is running arond 30 E per person |

Connied76, Naples-Rome, Rome-Florence run about 30 euros each way on the EuroStar. The Intercity is pretty speedy too and costs a bit less. Naples-Florence is just a combination of the other two (same train usually), so it'll cost more. Florence-Vienna will be much more on a fast train. (Did you really mean Vienna, in Austria?) Do you know about Treni Italia? |
