What do you guys think of this eatery? My friend and I picked up a great menu the other day, but I wanted to get some feedback before we dined in or took out. I tried searching MOL but again, "internal error" problems. |

As I've posted many times on this site - Crane's is wonderful. Try the meatloaf - my fav. You can get it on the Monday nite dinner or the Tuesday lunch sandwich. We have not had a bad or even mediocre meal there. Everyone who works there is cheerful, helpful, and pleasant. Try the grilled veggie, goat cheese on ciabatta bread, the gobbler or "Maplewood's very own mufflata." The only time I ever drink soda is here, too. Oh, I forgot about the sticky pecan buns - my personal treat to myself after walking a couple of miles or cleaning my house. |

Hands down the best iced coffee in town! They also have a hot turkey sandwhich (forgot what is called) that I get all the time. Everytime I go in I feel like I am back in Brooklyn. |

Yum, yum, yum. Love their sandwiches. And if you want "something" but nothing on the menu is grabbing you at the moment (rare, but it happens) tell the guys what you are in the mood for & they'll whip you up your own sandwich creation. I find that they are high-caloried, but that may be because I always end up buying and eating more than usual. One caveat on the dinners: they are portioned for what dinner for two should be, not typical "American portions". So if a 20oz steak is your idea of a little beef, get your own dinner. |

Last time i was there (about 4-6 weeks ago), the dinner special seemed significantly bigger than the time several months before that. Definitely enough for two healthy eaters! Don't know if it was a fluke or if they've increased the portion size a bit. But Cranes is great! |

Without a doubt, every time I go I am so happy with what I ordered. I can't count the number of pulled pork sandwhiches I have had there. Pairing it up with the home made potato chips is the way to go. Their "crazy salad" with some additional chicken on top is delicious, and I never would have thought to put roasted apples on a salad. Apples, yes, but roasted? Delicious. Soups are great too. On a hot day a couple of weeks ago I picked up some cold carrot ginger soup, and it was perfect. And the bread pudding......Yum. Run, don't walk, to Crane's. |

Hate to say it but when it comes to sandwiches , their's are a little skimpy compared to Millburn deli. |

I have a good appetite and I can't finish the sandwiches there. I am sure you can find bigger servings elsewhere but I feel that Crane's sandwiches can fill you up. |

Jet, I think it's a different kind of place - I happen not to really like a deli-type sandwich (tho. understand they are very popular) that is 4 inches tall, as I end up taking half the contents off...also not a fan of 2 inches of cream cheese on a bagel (not that you are - just seems that that's how they come in lots of places unless you ask for a smaller amount)...different strokes I agree w/ Georgie - I think the portions at Cranes are great & can even be shared sometimes. |

My husband picked up the brie sandwich and a roasted vegi/goat cheese sandwich as a late lunch for our moving day and they lasted for about 2 meals and a snack.

Doulam: Have you tried asking for "just a shmear or cream cheese"? In the city the just a shmear is an understood lingo for not alot of spread. Usually works. |

Ally, Tho. I don't come by it natuarally, I've picked up "just a shmear" from my 17 or so yrs in the NYC area...I usually end up feeling like a pretender & say "just a little" & it usally works...if not, I wipe off the rest! |

Where is Cranes? I do wheresgeorge.com and somehow got hits on seven bills from there. I've never beenthere and I know I spent these bils at the South Orange Pool for 'pool food.' I keep hearing good things about Cranes. I'd like to give them a try, and also get some mor hits on my bills! |

Great yogurt parfaits for breakfast -- fresh berries, rich yogurt and a touch of granola -- nice alternative. |

Watch out for their BLT - tomatoes they use are sitting in oil and makes for a very oily, not so great lunch experience. Only bad thing I've had there and trust me, it's that BAD to write about it. Their hummus is superb! |

NFK, I would get one of the sandwiches with sun-dried tomatoes (I think with Goatcheese) that was unbelievably oily. Someone on MOL had suggested I tell them next time they make it to make sure to go light on the oil and it worked for me. The next sandwich was perfect. I make the same suggestion to you. The staff in there understands their business which is making the customer happy. If you give them the opportunity, they will try their hardest to succeed. At least that has been my experience. |
