We're planning a little get a way for my 40th. Anyone been there? I've never been to the Carribean, so I'm having muchos trouble deciding. Tobago had a rain forest, bird sanctuary, etc, besides the beaches. We're only going for 4 days, and of course would like to fly direct to whatever island we choose. PS: I don't really want to go to PR or the DR this time. Love to go to Haiti, but too violent...

Shana - I lived in the Carib for a bit - Tobago is great but a bit of a hassle to get to. Worth the effort but you have to take a teensy plane. Maybe it's changed today - if not, St. John's is gorgeous - almost the entire island is a protected national park. |

Tobago is wonderful, wonderful. Very preserved. I just think it's too far to go for a 4 day trip. The US Virgin Islands are also quite lovely. |

Tobago is gorgeous, but I agree it may be a bit much for a 4-day trip. It's my dream to get back there for an extended vacation some day! |

YOu could try the Bay Islands off Honduras. We had a great time scuba diving and snorkelling on Roatan. If you are bringing the kids there are things to do besides the beach--I remember a butterfly sanctuary. Or look into Belize. The currency is pegged to the dollar, and everyone speaks English, so it's pretty easy. We stayed on Caye Caulker for our honeymoon and it was great for diving and snorkelling. You could get up close and personal with sting rays and nurse sharks. Not much of a beach, though, so probably not great for kids. Both of these places are on the less expensive side of things. Call me for further info if you're interested. |

We looked into Tobago for the same reasons you mentioned - rain forest, the beaches etc. We ended up going to Grenada - which offers the same attractions. In addition, it is not too expensive or commercialized. The first time we stayed at a place on Grand Anse beach and the second time in the Lance Aux Epines area. We would go back in a heartbeat. An added bonus of Grenada is that it is out of the hurricane belt. We also went to Belize which has its own charm - great scuba/snorkelling, rainforests, Mayan ruins etc. Not sure about the hurricane belt issue regarding Belize. Grenada is easier with kids, Belize maybe a little harder. Both are nice. We took a non-stop flight to Grenada. By now, Belize probably has non-stop flights as well. Hope this helps.

I think I was there , full moon party @ Bomba's shack . But maybe it was Barbados , I've asked a few of the friends that I was with, there not sure either. We were cruising around. But if your ever in either of those spots on a full moon , find Bomba's shack . Drink the punch @ your own risk. |
