I'm meeting a friend from Philly, who wants to go to a Jersey Shore beach that is roughly equidistant from both of us. She'd like to go on a Friday, but I fear the traffic. Any thoughts on good beaches, or on what traffic is like this time of year on a Friday as opposed to, say, a Wednesday? I saw the posts about 7 Presidents Beach, which looks great but perhaps too far from Philly. |

Island Beach State Park is a bit farther down and therefore a bit more convenient to Philly folks. It's about an hour from here with no traffic, I guess a bit farther for them. We always drive down Friday nights so I can't say what mornings would be like. But I'd guess if you got there early (which you should do at any of the state parks to make sure you get in and get a parking spot)it shouldn't be that bad. Friday afternoon traffic is pretty bad heading towards the shore. The key to Island Beach St Pk is going past the main parking and beach areas. There are places to park here and there down the road and you will get a chunk of the beach almost to yourself. I prefer it to Seven Presidents by far.

I third Island Beach but I think Phyllis underestimated the time to get there. Just to get to exit 82 on the GSP (which is the exit I believe) is about 60 miles and then you have several miles to go east and then futher south. But it is well worth it even for a day trip and would make it a better meeting spot for the two of you. |
