Looking for stuff to do, Approx. Mid to late October. Also when does the Blue Ridge Parkway close for the winter?

The Blue Ridge Parkway closes for the Winter? Does it get that bad in NC?

I remember reading on a road map years ago that it is a seasonal road. The problem is with the temperature drop that comes with high elevation.

Checking google, October is a great time to see fall leaf color changes. However, there may be problems with fog that time of year. There are closings because of ice but they will take place later in the year.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is open all year but if icy, etc some stretches may close. But overall it does not close. If you want to go there for fall, get a reservation in now. Very popular because of the natural beauty. Also lots of colleges along the way so popular on weekends for college football games. But it is one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Enjoy, cecilia
