Granted, we hadn't ordered from them for a while, but this evening my husband and I ordered some Chinese takeout. I ordered the chicken and walnuts, he ordered the appetizer plate (we share...) The food arrived, it's dreadful. B&H used to be SO good! Without fail, everything we ordered was dry or tasteless or - in the case of my chicken - there were 2 big pieces of pepper for every tiny bone-filled grisly bite of chicken. Anyone else notice a change? Is this just an off night? We called because my chicken with walnuts had no walnuts. My husband asked why it had so many peppers and he was told, "If you didn't want the peppers, you should have ordered shrimp with walnuts!" (??) We're still trying to figure THAT out. |

I don't know either. I used to love their orange chicken and spicy tea shrimp and would order it all the time. I ordered the orange chicken sometime and it was pretty much fried bread (with the tiniest pieces of chicken). I gave it another shot but the same thing happened. I haven't been back since. |

I eat it constantly, and it's consistently some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. The people who run the place seem to know most of the customers by name, and clearly aim to please. I'll hope you'll mention something to them. I've got to believe they'll try to make it right. |

LilB: We prefer Jade Lake on Millburn Ave. Certainly not the best we've ever had, but it'll do. Try them, if you haven't done so already. bklyngirl |

Our neighbor turned us on to Ginger Taste in Millburn (I think we drive past Jade Lake on the way there). Hardly Chinatown-level fare, but it's good enough to take care of the fix. |

We actually just tried Jade Lake for the first time about a month or so ago. We usually go to Ginger Taste, but wanted to try a place with a little more "atmosphere" because we were taking a friend out. I liked Jade Lake and would definitely go there again. I had a fish dish which I think had a Ginger Scallion sauce. It was delicious. Very nice people there too. I still prefer Ginger Taste, but would give Jade Lake a thumbs up as well.

We keep trying B&H because people swear by it, but it always just seems like ordinary, run-of-the-mill food. Just passable in our book. To each his/her own I guess. We prefer something more imaginative like you can get at Cathay 22 or Ginger Taste. Better yet, we love the food at Khun Thai (OBVIOUSLY not Chinese, but always good) |

We prefer Ling Ling on Main St. in Millburn. Their food seems healthier than most Chinese food - everything is fresh and very flavorful. The delivery is quick too! |

We had B+H last night and it was awful. Tasted like pepper. We were very surprised. |

This is funny. I'm waiting for AJC to weigh in and tell everyone to shut up and stop complaining about either poor service or poor product. |

I reeally like the people at B & H but last time we ordered, I can't remember the name of the dish, it was ALL onions. There were about 6 shrimp and the rest onions in a very thin, not too tasty red sauce. We also had the same experience with the chicken and broc; all broc with two or three dried out pieces of chicken. The sauce was not their best either. Maybe the regular chef was off that night. . . . I'm almost to the point where it's Ginger Taste or nothing. I always support Maplewood businesses but if they're not up to par, my support ends. AJC??? |

We've tried B&H several times since moving here two years ago (we were initially so excited at the thought of exiting the train and picking up Chinese food right there to bring home for dinner), and repeatedly had bad experiences. No communication issues with us, a simple point and order seemed to work. Just dry, tasteless, overcooked food. We gave up. For cheap-o take out we go to Panda on Springfield. Won't win any five star awards, but they are consistent. Unfortunately they don't deliver, only pick up. |

Swill &nHarry's has changed 10 fold since we moved here in 1993. Back then, it was ALL Tina and Michael (her brotherI. They bent over backwards to remember your name AND your favorites. It's just not the same and we KEEP trying. Who remebers a great seafood rest. on Bloomfield Ave. in Newark called SEACREST??? |

Tina still remembers my special order & what TS likes. Maybe the secret is ordering the same thing for 9 years?
We order things steamed with the sauces on the side (I know, I know) to try and be more healthy. For whatever reason, the sauces are much more flavorful that way. |

I'm delighted that so many of you feel the need to chime in with your awful B&H tales, and sincerely hope that you'll never patronize the place again, which shall mean shorter waits for those of us who still think it's great. -s. |

What's up with one soy sauce, one duck sauce, and one mustard for an entire order.( 2dinners 2 soups and an app.) If you forget to ask for fresh sauces you are screwed when you get home. They can't be more than a penny each , obviously I ordered boneless spare ribs and had one duck sauce bag for the entire dinner very disappointing.I called and asked them why so cheap with the sauces they said come back for more yeah right. |
