pseudonymous, Swirl is a wine events business that I am launching. It is something I wanted to do about a dozen years ago but then children arrived so it was put on the backburner but now it's been put back on the front. MOL's VIG designed a cool logo and card for me that has gotten some great feedback. I was fortunate to have been asked by the Lions Club to do a wine (and assorted other libation) table at the Great Chefs Night a few months back and it confirmed that as wine consumption continues to trend upward, there is an interest in learning more about it, in various ways and settings. So I will run classes, tastings, dinners, and even perhaps trips (an invitation to put together an Oregon-Washington wine tour was tossed out to me by some winemakers at a tasting I attended last week in the city). I will help organize private events, corporate events, fundraisers, parties, events at restaurants and other venues. I have talked with a number of people and it's taken me longer than I expected to get my technology needs in order, but it looks like it's all ready to go now and I am starting to set dates. I've got a lot of what I think are good ideas for events, like a tutorial on ports accompanied by pairings of blue cheeses from around the world; a sparkling wine tasting; a primer on sherries along with some food pairings (tapas most likely); and a tasting I refer to as "What are they drinking and is it any good?", just to list a very few. If you want more information, you can email me at swirlwineevents@verizon.net. I expect to have a preliminary website up this week too with some additional basic information and also plan to continue to build and finetune a database of people interested in wine who wish to be informed about events. The wine industry folks as well as food industry people I have mentioned this to are all very interested...I am thinking that to build such a database will not be that difficult since Ive already got hundreds of names and can see it expanding pretty easily if people pass the information along. Thanks for asking...cheers. |
