Not our first choice, but due to circumstances we're celebrating our October anniversary without the kids in LA for a weekend. We want a very nice place to stay, not as far as say Palm Desert or Joshua Tree. We're thinking Chateau Marmont. Any other suggestions? |

Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. Or the Beverly Hills Hotel, which is both very nice and sort of kitschy fun. |

I would second Shutters on the Beach but splurge for a room with a view otherwise you can end up looking at a parking lot. http://www.shuttersonthebeach.com/home.html What about Orange County - there are some really fabulous hotels there - the St. Regis Monarch, Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel, Montage Resort. In LA proper I would pick the Four Seasons over the Chateau Marmont but otherwise the Chateau is fun for star spotting. |

The Inn at Playa Del Rey. Like a small country inn, near the beach, looking out onto the only remaining wetlands in LA. Near the airport and Marina del Rey. www.innatplayadelrey.com |

If you want some young hollywood glamour- go to "the Standard" in Downtown LA. The rooftop nightclub is quite a scene (or was...as of last year). There are some great things to see in the downtown area. Disney Concert Hall, the Bradbury building, MOCA, Union Station, Olivera Street, all the hip new lofts and galleries on Spring Street, Union Station, Little Tokyo. Or, if you just want peace and quiet and a room by overlooking the ocean- Casa del Mar is a real treat...(but $$$) so is Shutters. Have fun! |

http://www.mosaichotel.com/ This is a really lovely boutique hotel in Beverly Hills - walking distance to Rodeo Drive (but who walks in LA?). |

Great suggestions! Chateau Marmont & Shutters were booked up (at the "low" rates anyway) for our weekend. Mosaic looks right up our alley. Many thanks to all.

The W in Weswtwood has huge rooms, great beds and great water pressure. They also have a newly opened Bliss Spa on the grounds. Get a room on a high floor with an urban view. I stay here 30 days a year and have a choice. it's 10 minutes to Rodeo and 20 to the beach. PLUS you can walk around Westwood if you'd prefer not to drive somewhere. |

Interesting... that's another one we were looking at. Thanks for the tip, we'll investigate further tonight online. |
