Anyone eaten dinner here before? In the mood for Indian tonight, but don't feel like driving up to Montclair. |

Lil,save your money. It's okay, but don't expect much. The best I can say for it is that it's convenient and they are pretty good supporters of the community. |

Head to Ragini on Rt. 22 in Springfield; you can take a back road thru Echo Lake park to avoid 22 completely. great service & food. perfect pre-movie place as Lowes Cineplex is right down the road. |

there are certain dishes at neelam which are pretty good. i like their chicken tikka masala and bayngan bhurtha, a nice roasted eggplant dish. i have been disappointed with shrimp there, and the chicken tandoori has been hit or miss. i do like the mint chutney they serve with appetizers. if you're very picky about indian, yes, ragini is better. but i'd give neelam at least one try. |

Beghum Palace. The best Indian food around. It's in the Staples shopping center in Madison. It's especially good on buffet nights -- Wednesdays and Sundays. |

I agree with 2 posts here: Neelam is just ok, unfortunately. Raagini on route 22 is very, very good indeed, and Raagini will "spice up" your selections as hot as you want them. Nice atmosphere too. |

I've been to Neelam. I thought it was pretty good. Thanks for reminding me to go Indian tonight. We're trying a new Indian restaurant in Easton. |

Had lunch there one day. It's okay at best. Raagini is good, not great, you can order a cocktail there. Having left NYC for Maplewood, I have yet to find good Indian food. Hmmm...I am actually craving it right now. |

Satish Palace on Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair is pretty good, very reasonable and the service is excellent. In my opinion nothing beats Shan on 48th st but it's a bit pricey. |

Star of India on 46th, I believe, will satisfy any lover of Indian food. And anyone venturing to Toronto will find excellent and reasonably-priced Indian food on King Street West about three blocks west of the Sun Life building, and on Queen Street west of University Ave. |

Anyone who thinks Neelam is anything but awful should be disenfranchised. What junk. What low standards you people have. |

Saffron on Rt. 10 has some great food. Somewhat on the pricier side though. And the decor is tasteful - not cheap and tacky like many Indian resturants. |

OK Cato. We just tried Bombay Grille in Easton, PA, and it was great, but of course, you might not like it. It has just opened, and is the talk of the town. |

I have lived here since 11/'97 and when first here gave Neelam at least 3 tries. They failed miserably--food and service and attitude declining with each visit. Never again. I enjoyed Raagini for lunch very much and Saffron for dinner was very nice except my wife was ill and we had to take everything to go. Also, the portions were small for the $ but I'd give it another try when all are well. Hey D--Please tell us the exact route to Raagini that avoids 22--would make a big difference to my Katie. Many thanks and be well and eat well, all. David |

We too gave up on Neelam after about two tries, and won't be back unless we hear of dramatic change. We mostly go to Raagini (via the back roads), and occasionally Saffron or Begum Palace. We enjoy all three but would love to have a tasty, classy Indian place close to home. |

Went to Neelam once, years ago, and was very disappointed. I would HIGHLY reccommend Star of India in Kennilworth. It's right off the parkway, about a 10-20 minute drive (depending on where in M/SO you are) but definitely worth it. One of my British friends who practically grew up on Indian food in England said it was some of the best she'd ever had. |

In defence of Neelam, and some people who like it, I have to say that a person's impression of how good a restaurant is is based on a number of factors. If you go there and haven't had much or any Indian food before, you'll have a different impression than if you're an expert in Indian cuisine. It also makes a difference as to whether you just get take-out or eat in. I don't find their service to be friendly, but it is prompt. Some of their dishes are okay, as mentioned above, and I order certain dishes in take-out form (once every couple of months) for convenience sake. (In terms of quality: The packets of prepared Indian food in Whole Foods is almost as good.) We love Indian food and if there was a good restaurant in town, we would eat there at least twice a month. But due to work schedules and our dislike of crowds, we've always liked to eat locally during the week and cook on the weekends so rarely go farther than Map/SO for food. R |

Neat back road map Dave! What else is located on that stretch of 22 besides the movie? Indian food just doesn't do it for me. |

It's like any other stretch of Route 22. A lot of the same old big box retailers with some strip malls. The only thing of interest I can think of on that particular stretch of this dreadfully dangerous highway is this wonderful Indian restaurant. But don't take my word for it. It's only a couple of miles away, take a ride there. I'm glad to see that I can avoid Route 22 entirely. I had been taking 22 W and then had to take a left lane Uturn, which puts me into the left lane of 22 E, just after a bend in the road. I'm convinced the designers or RT 22 had heavily invested in local auto body shops. I'm currently in a boycott mode of RT 22 businesses. I only go there if there's something truly unique or worthwhile like Ragini. Just because that road is so horrendous. |

Well it's not on Rt. 22 but I got that same way to get to the dog run at Echo Lake Park. I would also go that same way if I wanted to go to Trader Joe's or for that matter any of the fine eateries in Westfield. |
