Florida. All inclusive. Kid's have "camp" during the day (and babysitting at night?) so mom & dad can have a vacation, & Ft. Lauderdale grandparents can come visit when they want. You get the idea. Trouble is, the Sandals & CLub Med's etc. look so darn ersatz and forced in brochures & online.. Any experience or recommmendations with something a little more down to earth? does it exist? |

I really don't think it exists in FL. I could be wrong. |

Sandpiper has no beach. Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada or there is a resort called Duck Cay (I think) further out on the Keys. We stay at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach sometimes -- they might have some Kid's Club and babysitting. Hyatt's usually have some kid's club -- check out the one in Ft Lauderdale. |

Sandpiper is in Port ST. Lucie, which is at least an hour and a half from Ft.Lauderdale. I've heard there is a really nice hotel w/kids club in Weston, but I'm blanking on the name. I think the Boca Raton Resort and Club has a kid's club, too, but $$$ |

We really have never used the kid's club so I can't say but the Embassy Suites in Deerfield is nice -- you get free breakfast and happy hour, which is cool. Not as nice, but cheaper and I think a much more fun location is the Howard Johnson's in Deerfield Beach ... these are suggestions of places in the Ft. Lauderdale vicinity, not real resorty but good places to stay while visiting relatives. The HoJo's is nothing special but it's right on the beach (at the pier), walking distance to bars and restaurants and it's cheap. |

How about Hawk's Cay Resort? I've always heard good things. Check the website. |

Sandpiper does have a beach - it's on the river. They take kids from 3 months. I've heard Hawk's Cay is VERY pricey & kids club is only 1/2 day and starts at age 5.

Try the Sanibel Harbor resort & spa. We went last year with our baby and loved it. Though I will say he was only 5 months so he did not use the kids club. |

I've been to Hawk's Cay for a business conference (prior to having kids) and it was nice - nothing fancy, but I would go again. The beach is probably great for kids, but I found it pretty lame for my vacation needs- small and lake-like. |

I do not recommend Checca Lodge. Very overpriced and not worth the hype. We went w/o kids and it was very, very dissapointing. |

We love the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs (between Naples and Ft. Myers). They have a "time share" next door that is excellent too. Very kid friendly, absolutely incredible pools (slides, lazy river, etc). They do have a kid camp. Rooms are beautiful. Both properties are brand new. We'll go back for our 3rd visit in December. |

Boca Raton Hotel- it's $$$$, but beautiful, great well-run Kids Club staffed by retired teachers for the most part, beautiful property, incredible spa, great restaurants on premises and close to Ft. Lauderdale grandparents. |

There are some beautiful places in Sanibel/Captiva. They were hit hard with a hurricane in September. I would look into Sundial & South Seas Plantation. To book either, you can get them cheaper through local realtors, rather than resort. |
