Okay, it's closed for renovations and under new ownership. Has anyone heard of what might be going in there? And is it in Maplewood or Union? Presumably the new owners have the old liquor license. IMHO, an Irish pub in the spirit of St. James Gate would be great. And I can't imagine they'd be cannibalizing each other's business. If one person posts that a nail salon or massage parlor is going in there I will PL them a sock in the kisser.

I pass by there every day and i've seen people working inside when the paper on the windows wasn't up. It legitimately looks like it'll still be a bar, only... nicer. I never made it inside the old place to compare though. |

It was the perfect "local" place. It's in Union. Pool table, dart-board and a good juke box. Hope they just improve upon it and not change it. We don't need another "pub". |

Ahh... the bar from One True Thing. Now, what was the name of the bar in the photo hanging on the wall in the bar? |

All right. Maybe we don't need another pub. But how about a place to get a good beer on tap, maybe a nice burger, or a sandwich, maybe some sausages and mashed potatoes. But not a pub. |

The name of the bar in the photo was "the Comeback Inn". I wonder if that picture was just a prop or if it really was hanging on the wall.

I thought the name of the novel that the dad was writing was called The Comeback Inn, named after the sign on the door of the bar (or in the picture of the bar) that said "Come Back In." I didn't think the name of the bar itself in the movie was called the Comeback Inn... was it? |

Very good - Yes, The Comeback Inn was the name of the book the dad was writing and also the name of the bar in the painting hanging on the wall of the bar. |

Lucky, the only thing I know of is to go to TGI Fridays or somewhere like that - they have smokefree sections, you'd have to get a table. But I don't know of any bar that's smokefree. Maybe you should pose this question in the "Let's Make NJ Smokefree" topic in the soapbox. |

Verjus has a bar area? Never been there myself. How is it as bars go ... expensive? Do they have draft beer? Can you get anything to eat in the bar? I know it's a more upscale restaurant so I don't hold out much hope for the above. |

Ruby Tuesdays in Union is completely smoke-free, including the relatively large bar area. |

Bill P. Verjus isn't really the "hanging out at the bar" kind of place. I am sure they would serve you at the bar, they would be crazy not too. I just find it more suited for dinner than the bar. |

Although, if a movie theatre ever went in on Springfield ave, I could definitely see going in to verjus' bar for a glass o something and order appetizers after the show - kinda like we do with centannis or the pub. They do have 5 or 6 barstools, so I don't think they would be averse to having people sit there. |

Verjus is a lovely place to have a drink and you will be warmly welcomed; it is comfortable and has a wonderful wine by the glass selection. I don't know re draft beer but they have good beer in bottles and there is NO SMOKE!!!! Try it, Bill and Red! Be well and drink well (and responsibly!), all. David Buckley |
