We were planning to rent a beach house on LBI this summer for vacation...turns out the hubster can't take a week off from June - October. Looks like we are in to Nov/Dec time frame. So it's back to the drawing board. We have a 2 and a 4 year old. Main priority is warmth and a nice beach. Won't drive more than 5 hours so we want a direct flight. Also would love to have a kitchen, either in a suite or condo. Decent food would be nice, as well as cool kiddie pools. Interested in a kids' camp, but only if it will take both kids in one place (one will not go without the other). Price is an issue but willing to pay more to get more. All inclusive ok but not critical. Florida? Bahamas/other carribean? Dominican? We probably won't book now but I like to research a lot before I commit. Thanks! |

Club Med Punta Cana is having a sale if you can go the last week orf October -- the sale is Sept/Oct. Punta Cana has kid's clubs starting at 2 years -- I really want to go there. |

I didn't hear such great things about the Club Med there. There are plenty of other family friendly places. |

Any comments on the safety of the Carribean? I've heard not-so-nice things about Jamaica. I also feel kind of silly "splurging" on a carribean vacation when we could just go to Florida. All we really want is warmth and sand, but I'm not sure it is warm enough in Florida in the fall/winter. Also although we are used to (pre-kids) staying at very nice resorts so a clean, updated room and decent food choices would be great. Guess I need to get my to a travel agent, huh! |

Hyatt Dorado/Cerromar/Hacienda del Mar in Puerto Rico may have just what you want- beautiful beaches, uncrowded, direct flight from Newark, Even a Johnny Rockets on the premises for those whose diet is heavy on the chicken fingers and burgers. HdM is condos, but you have the run of all 3 (attached) properties. Not cheap, but very comfortable for families with young 'uns. PS: You are correct that Florida/Bahamas is very iffy, weatherwise, in November & December. |

A colleague of mine, who is actually quite a snob generally when it comes to travel (she always pays extra out of pocket to fly first class, for example, even on short flights), just spent a week at the Club Med in Punta Cana and thought it was perfect for a family vacation; she has two children, ages 2 and 4, and they went with another family with kids of a similar age. I think what saved it for her was the "Frenchness" of the resort; if it had been a Beaches or someplace more middle American, she probably would have been less forgiving. |

We have spent three vacations at FDR Resort in Jamaica. www.fdrholidays.com caters to families with kids under 10. It's an all-inclusive that provides you with a vacation nanny. Jamaica is not an island I would narmally suggest, but FDR has the right formula for all family members to enjoy their vacation. |

We very much enjoyed our visit to Sunscape Punta Cana Grande. All inclusive, kids club, great beach, movies outdoors every night, incredibly friendly and accomodating staff, lots of families vacationing there. Moved the entire buffet restaurant to the beach for dinner one night! By nature, I am not an "all-inclusive" type person. However, it's entirely different when vacationing with kids. All you have to do is relax! |
