Looking to rent a house on LBI this summer, and I noticed a lot of places are already taken. Can anyone recommend a good realtor who can help us find a nice kid-friendly (and, ideally, dog-friendly) place fast? We are not that picky as far ocean-side vs. bay-side as long as it's not in a honky-tonky section. We may go down there this weekend to check it out. Thanks.

We will be staying for a week in Beach Haven this summer. This will be our 9th summer going. We like Beach Haven because you can basically walk to all the attractions. Beach Haven has an amusement park, a water park, a couple of minature golf courses, and tons of shops and restaurants. Extremely kid friendly, we love it there!

Here are the realtors we have rented from:

The Van Dyk Group
Newbern Realty Co.
G. Anderson
Diane Turton Realtors

I would recommend a trip down there, so you can see what you will be getting. We did this when we first rented. You can go into any office and tell them the week you want, the number of bedrooms, baths, etc. and each place will tell you what they have available. But, since there might not be that much available (rental contracts go out around Nov/Dec/Jan) and you are looking for a dog-friendly rental I would call around first before you make the trip down there. All places we have rented from were no pets allowed.

zoesky, don't know any realtors, but if you can go a little off season, just before school ends/starts, depending on your kids ages, you might have better luck.

Thanks. We are flexible on the dog issue...i am starting to realize how difficult it will be to find a place that we like at all, given how late we're starting, let alone a place that we like that admits dogs. So he may just have to stay home. Are the realtor offices down there generally open this time of year so if we just drive down we can go in?

I think they are open year round since they also handle homes for sale.

Definitely open year round. We always go in January to the realtor to get our house in RI, I am sure it is the same in NJ

Yes, realtors are always open, but you might call a few first to make an appointment. Sometimes they are already out showing houses. Also, they can do a search before you come so that you have something to look at when you get there.

We use HCH in Harvey Cedars. Rents on the north side of the island.

call before you go. my experience with realtors on the shore is they want you to make an appointment, even if it is for the following day.

2 years ago we went there and the bugs on the bay side were horrendous. I'd go for the ocean side if at all possible.

We have a house on the bay side, and its usually fine - although I'm sure if you were right on the bay it would be worse. We're about 10 houses up and no problems, usually. I have friends in Holgate, and do find the greenhead problem is worse down there. But its quieter down there, so I know plenty of people who prefer it anyway!

When there's a land breeze plus a healthy crop of biting flies, the only safe side is INSIDE...

BTW: If any of you can find this place from 8/20-8-27:

drop in for a Dos Equis and some introductions!

Thanks, Soda! We haven't made it down there yet, and in fact we are going to just bite the bullet and book something online this weekend because we are running out of time. It is just for one week so we're OK with doing it this way. Thanks!

We have been vacationing in Beach Haven since 1981 and have had the joy of owning a home there since 1996. All of the realtors have been mentioned with Prudential Zach (Diana) and Newbern (Tom) being the two I would recommend.

We are also renting our home for part of this summer. here is the information should you be interested. Regards - helen & John

................................................
Located in the heart of Beach Haven - this Victorian home was built in 1893 and while it has retained its charm it has some very modern amenities, like a spacious family room that was added in 2001.

On the first floor the home provides a terrific wrap around front porch, a living room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, the new family room with cathedral ceilings, a full bathroom, laundry room and a covered back porch.

The second floor includes two large bedrooms (1 queen bedding & 1 full bedding) and a smaller bedroom (full bedding), along with a full bathroom.

The third floor is a recently upgraded dormitory-style room with accomodations for 6 pre-teens/teens).

The property also includes a great backyard and a wonderful outdoor shower. All the bedrooms have air conditioners and a grill is provided.

The home is located about 200 yards from the Atlantic Ocean with an incredible beach, and about 500 yards from Barnegat Bay (great fishing, sailing, crabbing, boating...).

The neighborhood is a historic district with some incredible homes built in the period from 1870 - 1900 when the area was a tourist destination for Philadelphians. Today, it is a family and adult friendly neighborhood (not a college student rental destination) with some terrific restaurants and great shopping all within walking distance and all which welcome very casual attire.

I have included some pictures with the posting and the availability/rates are below. Feel free to contact me via email at harveyclan1@comcast.net or call me at 862-216-2425 should you have questions, references, or additional information.

In the meantime, live well - Helen & John

Helen, believe it or not but we have been procrastinating (visiting family, business travel, etc.) and have not yet found a place....so we are VERY interested in your place. I will call you, but in the meantime, your pictures didn't come through. Would you mind reposting, or could you privateline me the link to the pictures? Thank you....I will call you later concerning one of those weeks you list above.

It's an official invite. Any and all MOLers who can find our little piece of LBI heaven from 4PM on 8/20 until 10PM on 8/26 are cordially invited to drop in for a beer. They're then cordially invited to go away.

BTW:
Big Hint: We're on the Oceanside...
