With Easter coming this weekend, i thought i'd post a followup to a question i posted about this place last year. It's on Springfield Avenue, just past the intersection at Prospect going toward Home Depot.

I finally got up the nerve to stop in a few months back, and i'm so glad i did! Turns out it's the production facility for the actual storefront, which is located in Garfield, NJ. The Maplewood place isn't fancy... the windows are opaque green, and the doors are always closed. But there's a small register at the front, and you can walk in whenever they're open (which they told me was 5am-3pm, Mon-Sat) to buy things. The only catch is, they speak very little English, so the things we've tried so far have been limited.

From experience, i can say that their kielbasi is exceptional. It has a smoky flavor, and since they make it there, it's likely to be warm and juicy when you buy it. (You just have to buy $10 worth, because they're huge.) They also usually have hot stuffed cabbage, and we've tried something else called bigos, which is a meat and sauerkraut dish. A big container of bigos (think large wonton soup container) is only $3.50.

They have every kind of meat under the sun, as well as some cakes and breads on the weekends. It's not uncommon to stand in line on a saturday behind several polish people buying enough pork and sausages to feed a family of 12 for a week.

Anyway, i've been having fun with this place. I think the woman behind the register things i'm cute because i don't know any polish, yet i try so hard to figure out what things are. I even took a picture of the sign on their wall with my camera phone so i could come home and translate the names of the different meats.

Anyway, stop by if you're feeling adventurous!

Thanks!! I've often looked at the place and wondered what the deal was, now I'll stop in.

I've always been curious about it, too. This is really helpful. Thanks!
