I know, I know - there have been several threads on this. but I FINALLY got to eat at (well, from) Heart & Soul and have to add my own strong praise to the mix. the food? WOW. every dish tasted amazing, textures were awesome.

I think the most excellent thing was the cornbread. I was raised in the South, so I *know* cornbread, and don't think I've ever had it this good.
I also had cajun fried catfish, mac & chees, and broccoli. the catfish was delicious, cooked perfectly, and the seasonigs and batter were excellent, and not heavy at all. homemade mac & cheese is often not very flavorful. Heart & Soul mac & cheese? you'll think your mama's been holding out on you. and the broccoli was really good as well.

my husband really liked his meal as well - said the barbecue sauce on the chicken was amazing, and must be homemade (and he is somewhat of an afficionado). also had the yams which he said were exceptional.

the topper was we each only ate about half of our dinners, and were stuffed. you could easily split one of these (just make sure to order an extra cornbread, so you each get your own!). we're saving ours for lunch over the weekend... yum!!

while we waited for our food, they had two young men playing jazz guitar. it was really pretty good, and their selections were great. the space is less than ideal for the musicians, but we really enjoyed the music. there was a good crowd there, but in light of the quality of the food, I am surprised it wasn't packed.

if you've been meaning to go, GO! you'll be so glad you did!

I know the place is small, but can you fit a family of five there? Or are we better off doing take-out?
Also, do you remember the days they're open?

Wednesday through Sunday www.heartandsoulrestaurant.com

Last time I was in there, I seem to remember there being four or five tables for four. I'm sure you could pull up another chair. Guess it couldn't hurt to call and ask.

shh - we ate there with 3 other couples, we fit fine. But we made reservations, so they were expecting us.

Chef Jesse catered our cousin's birthday party last saturday and the food was incredible! It almost seemed to be (although my husband disagreed) better than when we've eaten in.
I really hope Heart & Soul continues to be a viable business.

run, don't walk.

We had takeout from Heart and Soul again last night. It was pretty busy - both eat-in and take-out - when we stopped by to pick up our food AND they had a couple of guys playing live jazz guitar.

Dinner was yummy.

Just wondering - do the chairs have arms on them? Would it be easy to transfer out of a scooter into a chair?

no arms...It think it would be easy. There's carpeting, too, so the chairs won't slide.

I've said it before, and I can't say it enough...

GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

Went last night and had the ribs with mac and cheese and yams - and I ate every single bite. I was so full I could barely walk to my car afterwards, but I just couldn't get enough of those tender ribs. I told Jesse I'm planning to get a few slabs of them for the annual Memorial Day family BBQ!!

If you haven't gone yet, what are you waiting for??

Well, I tried calling for take-out on Saturday evening and I was told they couldn't take any orders for over an hour.
So, I guess they're pretty busy.

We just had the BEST ribs ever last night along with whipped cheese potatoes, a cucumber salad to die for and delish corn bread. I cannot stop thinking about it even now.

I echo the ribs. They are the best.

I had tried H&S just once and we had some friends over and were trying to come up with a dinner plan. Based on the 1 exp., we felt comfortable calling H&S and ordering 1 of everything. They were all fantastic. I occasionally drop in on my way home, when it's fairly late and the pickings are thin, I do so confident that as long as they're not totally sold out, I will be able to take home a tasty dinner. H&S is, hands down, my best find since moving to S.O.
