We are planning to go to the movies at Essex Green tomorrow (a rare date night). Looking for a decent place to eat a quick dinner nearby. Thanks.

Go past Essex Green, go down the hill and up the hill and turn into Pal's Cabin's parking lot. Try the mushroom soup...

In Essex Green: Panera (like Au Bon Pain), Dessert Moon (cute Mexican franchise), and typical Chinese buffet. One little know gem is that you can order off a very reasonably priced menu at the Chinese buffet, and get freshly prepared food.

Prospect & Eagle Rock Avenues (two minutes north): Pal's Cabin for after-church American food; Greek diner on Eagle Rock Avenue; Chinese food on Eagle Rock; Italian behind K-Mart.

Northfield & Pleasant Valley Way (two minutes west): Starlite Pizzeria (traditional red sauce Italian).

Pleasantdale (Pleasant Valley Way & Eagle Rock, about five minutes northwest): Japanese, Italian, and noveau American.

There's a little Mexican place at the Essex Green i've heard good things about. I think it's near Jerry's Art Supplies.

The Chinese place is the China Gourmet. Make a left at the intersection of Ptospect and EAgle ROck Avenjues. It's just a lttle beyond there. The food and service are great, the place is spotlessly clean, and they have a liquor license.

The little Mexican place is Desert Moon. Haven't been there myself, but I'll get there eventually.

Stat away from TGIF in the mall. It's a zoo on Fridays.

There's also a small family-run pizza place behind the shopping center also. It's by the Subway and the back entrance to Macy's. Not beautiful looking but the food is good.

I went to that Mexican place, Desert Moon. Not a nice place for a date, but OK if you're with kids. It's a weird combo of a fast-food place with sit-down qualities. They do have margaritas, but they're really bad.

And that TGIF there is probably the worst TGIF i have ever been to.

Now there's a scary image, "the worst TGIF."

Thanks all. We went to Pal's and I liked it. Kind of cheesy but I had a really good steak and my wife had the mushroom soup which was really good.

And Sin City is great if you can take the violence.
