I have heard a little less than nothing about this place (other than a passing comment by Chef Jesse). So when my wife and I were on the MOL restaurant page and stumbled upon it we definitely were curious. I did some research online and the only info to be found was that they served, Portugese, Mexican and Cajun and that it was SUPER close to our house. Now I've been CRAVING cajun for a long time and there isn't anywhere that I know of to get it in our area -- so that was more than enough for us to give the place a try. Well, rather than get into a long story about the evening (loads of ups and downs along the way) let me just summarize by saying the service was ABYSMAL and they kept trying to overcharge us all night until they finally did gouge us by charging us for water). In fact I think we gave the lowest tip we have given in MANY MANY years. But the food was ok. I'm not going to complain about it. I think it is certainly a place I could go back to when I want a blackened catfish sandwich. Everyone else I was with thought the food was acceptable too. I had blackened catfish fajitas, and I was happily surprised that the fish wasn't over cooked and the blackening was tasty. So overall I sorta felt like it was another place to add to my culinary quiver. I'd be curious what everyone else thinks about the place or if you guys even know the place exists. |

You experienced abysmal service, price gouging, okay food and you would would want to go back there. You need to get out more . My sister and I went to Jumbalaya once. The entire experience was very unsatisfying and I've never gone back. |

Well there isn't any Cajun in the area so it fills a space in the food ecology I guess. But like I said, I was curious what other people's experiences were with the place. |

Jumbalaya sucks with a capital S. If you want good cajun, hop on a Hoboken train and go to Oddfellows. It's a block from the station and has great Cajun, and water is free. |

I also live near Jumbalaya. Have been there twice and both times found the food to be so-so and the service borderline bad. Their namesake dish tastes nothing like a good jambalaya. I agree with canismajor, try Oddfellow's in Jersey City or catch a plane to N'awlins for the weekend. |

I basically agree - Jambalayas food was OK, service was terrible. Oddfellow's is great, I highly recommend it. Our drummer recommends The Crossroads www.xxroads.com/menu.html |
