Hi Folks... No kids...picking my wife up at the airport around 6...where should I go have dinner? Its Monday...a couple of places I want to try are closed. Fascino in Montclair is open...so thats a possibility. Considering going to Forno's too. Driving into the city is a possibility...especially lower West Side where parking is a bit easier. Curious for your thoughts...thanks. |

Casual or not? Price range? Any preference for cuisine? Newark airport? Quite a few good places in Hoboken. |

Well then, my suggestion is to pull a nice bottle of wine out of your well-stocked cellar, set up the dining room table for two, get whatever take-out she prefers, have her favorite tunes playing in the background, light candles everywhere and have a nice quiet, romantic meal at home. And of course, don't forget to surprise her with a nice gift of new socks. (Of course, this plan only works if the house is neat enough not to provide too many distractions. My house is way to cluttered to enjoy a romantic meal at home. Luckily, I'm easy.) |

shh, I didnt know that last fact about you. A fine meal is to be had (with wine) at my house most any given night (unless there are multiple activities going on that night...then its a crapshoot..but the wine is still likely). The socks however might be a lovely surprise for when we get home after dinner...one of the guys at the gym says it works like a charm for him! |

I heard Elysian is now affiliated with Amanda's..I used to go there for beer and music when I lived a few doors away, next to the Elks Club. Isnt there a Maplewood connection with Elysian now? A friend is now the chef at Madison Grill in Hoboken, in the process of making that a part of the real restaurant scene there. |

Hank - Cucharamama in Hoboken. Latin, maybe Argentinian. Very adorable, charming atmosphere. Highly recommend it!

I prefer Forno's...a close friend born in Spain goes there regularly and when he has visitors from Spain, they usually go there as well. Ive been to Don Pepe's...I like it well enough too. Right now..Im leaning towards Hoboken...Amanda's or Madison Grill, if my friend is in the kitchen. Its all subject to change (and whimsy)...could easily head into the city and go to Zoe too.

Hank, The folks that own Amanda's have taken over Cafe Elysian. If you haven't tried Blue Ribbon , make a point to @ some time, for chefs by chefs. |

jet... I thought I heard some Maplewoodian or former Maplewoodian is in the kitchen at the Elysian...do you know offhand? My bachelor party ended at the Elysian (at least what I recall).

The people from Amanda's turned the Elysian place into a pretty classy joint. I've been there and I loved it. I don't know who is in the kitchen. I kind of wish they hadn't made it all classy. I loved that place. Thursday / Saturday night blues. Oh the memories. |

Robert Ross Band was it that played there all the time? He won some local NYC blues band "best of" award one year. Any relation to Dave and Jamie? |

Hank, I believe that the chef from Amanda's became a partner with the couple that runs Amanda's in the new venture but I don't know if he is from Mwood. Enjoy. |

home. Was going to go to Hoboken...but the 6PM flight arrival was pushed back to 7PM, then 805PM. I left the house when the flight tracker looked to have the plane over Suffern. But 50 miles from Newark, the plan circled the airport for close to an hour...landing around 9PM. A couple of glasses of wine and some crackers...that was dinner. But I have a few places to get to now next time. |
