I posted this on another thread but it's so unbelievable I'll post it again.

Early bird special at Amanda's in Hoboken. You must order by 5:30 and be out by 7:30, Monday through Saturday, reservations up to 8 people are taken.

Appetizer, entree, starch, vegetable, dessert...$25 per couple! Fantastic dinner. I baby green salad with goat cheese and raisins, hanger steak, mashed potatoes, snap peas and carrots, and chocolate mousse.

Great bottle of Pinot Grigio for $15. Total cost, with two cups of coffee...$48. Granted, the portions aren't large, but by the time the dessert was over we had had enough to eat. The place is also gorgeous.

Treat yourselves. 9th and Washington.

This made me smile..I used to go to the Amanda's early bird special once every couple of weeks in 1995-6, when I lived around the corner on Willow Street. I was a broke, single mom and would bring my toddler daughter to dinner there, both to get out of the house and feel like I was doing something "special." For $9.95, they not only gave *me* a beautiful three-course dinner, but always had a plate of gorgeous baby veggies or super-gourmet chicken nuggets for little Ms. G. I am so glad to hear they're still going strong.

jeff, if I may be so bold as to take credit, I was the one who directed you to Amanda's website on that other thread, and I'm so glad you went and enjoyed it.

I've been going there for years. My husband and I ate there often when we first started dating, my "foody" friend and I enjoyed girls night out there whenever we could and, years later, we had Baptism brunch there for two of our children (the middle child had his at the Hilton in Short Hills and it was a major disappointment). Needless to say, we just love everything about the place. Never tried the early bird, although I've always been intrigued. Maybe that'll be our next "date night" since we're usually pretty much "done" by 9:00 PM these days.

My inlaws threw my wife and me a sort of engagement party there, back in 2003, and we enjoyed it very much.
