At 6:40 this eve we had the lovely idea to order some food from Hunan Wok. Our order was just delivered at 8:37. It is bad enough that the order taker speaks an unintelligable (sp) language that seems to be halfway between chinese and english, but after about an hour when I called to check on the order he lied and told me it had left with a lot of other orders already and would be 5 minutes. 20 minutes after that when I called to have him check where the order was he said he would call "the guy" (assumed he meant the delivery guy). 15 minutes after this I call again and now the guy on the phone is making no sense at all. I ask to speak to the manager or owner. He resists and says "he helps " but I insist and then speak to a woman who at least speaks more english. It is now 8:20 and she tells me they are backed up but my order just left. I asked her why I should believe her since I was already told my order left an hour and a half ago. I get no response. I asked her whether the order would be free since it has been almost two hours and I have been repeatedly lied to on the phone. She didn't like that idea. My stress free dinner turned into a blood-boiler and I urge anyone who considers ordering from Hunan wok to steer clear. |

We've gotten food from Hunan Wok about 20 times and never had a problem. |

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. Personally, I just don't like their food. Yuck! |

We ordered last night also, about the same time. It came on time, and was excellent... BTW, I don't believe anyone else in town delivers Chinese, do they?

I got the exact same run around from them last week. I got half my order delivered after 45 minutes when I realised I only had half my order I called and was told that the rest of my order would be delivered in 10 minutes, an hour later I was still waiting. It was finally delivered about 90 minutes after the first food arrived. I will never order anything from Hunan Wok again. |

Hate to say it, but that's happened to me before as well. It was early winter and the weather was terrible, so I figured everyone was placing delivery orders. It took probably 2 hours or so for the food to come. Luckily, when it finally did arrive it was much better than their usual—I mean it was almost as if it came from a different place! (Fresh, crisp vegetables, lots of flavor, etc.) It was obvious the food had just been made. Also, the delivery guy was very nice so I gave him the usual tip. I felt bad he was running around in the bone chilling weather. Bottom line, if I really need delivery, I'll go to them. The food is inconsistent though. (And obviously so are the delivery times.) I want to support the new businesses on SA if I can. |

After an hour, I would have bitten the bullet, gone and picked something up at Bill & Harry's & refused the order when it came. As long as people accept this level of non-service, why should the merchant worry about it? |

AJC -- we order delivery from Peking House in West Orange -- they deliver to South Orange and Maplewood at no charge, are always on time, very nice folks, and most important, the food is the best I've had in the area. BHW |

we live just down the block from "the wok", so we've never had to place a delivery order. our experience has always been good (food's good and they special make things for us when we ask). we probably order from them once a week... love it on the cold nights, cuz no one's in the place except us hilton/springfield ave locals. i remember when they first opened, the food was questionable and inconsistent... but since that time, they've really stepped it up. the food is waaaaaay better than bill and scary's and we find it to be totally reliable. before "the wok" we usta order from tomato garden in springfield. their food was real good and their delivery was super reliable. they're also one of those places that seems to delivery a 2 liter with anything you order. cool.

Wait let me get this straight parkah, you like the food better at Hunan Wok than Bill and Harry's? I doubt your going to find anyone else that agrees with you there. |

I agree with parkah. B&H is, eh. I still have not found a great chinese since we moved here. Sampan was great however since the change we have not ordered from them. And we have not had terrible food from HW. The other day we had great fresh, flavorful food from there. Morrisas delivery time is not acceptable though. Maybe an off night. |

The new place in Millburn (where Sampam was) Ginger Taste is really very good. Love the eclectic dishes. More than just Chinese. Try the Sampai. |

Oh don't get me wrong, I too have not found very good Chinese in the area. I just think that B&H is better than the other horrible Chinese places nearby. I'm holding out hope that Cathay 22 is as good as everyone says. Otherwise, I'll just stick with Penang, Ginger Taste and Taste of Asia and Morris Thai, none of which are specifically Chinese but at least I consistently enjoy my meals there. |

Though they're not, by far, the best Chinese I have ever had, Bill and Harry's blows away Hunan Wok any day for fresh ingredients, tasty seasoning, and sauces that are not gloppy and ladden with grease. |
