...so, can anyone steer me (rather, my family) towards a one-week rental at the beach/shore, anywhere, the week beginning August 27???

We enjoy Stone Harbor New Jersey. I don't know about availability. Another possibility is Delaware or Maryland shore. We've also enjoyed Montalk.

Beleive it or not, Myrtle Beach at that time of the year is not as much of a zoo as it is during the rest of the summer because the children in the south for the most part have gone back to school by then. We used to always take vacations down there when our children were younger and you can really get some great deals on rates for cottages, condo's and hotel/motel rooms at that time of the year...we found them to be a 1/2 of what it would cost for a comparable stay at the Jersey shore...
It is about a 12 hour drive or under three hours by air...they have a great airport and lots to do for children, teens and adults...the beaches are wonderful as well...
(and the food is real southern good stuff....)

We own a vacation home in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island - a block from the ocean. It sleeps up to 12 people and the week of the 27th is one of two weeks available. Please call me at 862-216-2425 if you are interested and want more details. Thanks - John Harvey
