I made my last and final visit to the GLB tonight. The place is awful. Each time I go there, the service gets worse. And it’s not just the hired help, it’s the owners/managers. Upon telling two different owners that the service has been consistently terrible and that I wouldn’t be coming back, I got little more than a shoulder shrug. I decided to leave and go to St. James Gate – the food and service was very good. I dine out with my family about 4/5 nights a week. According to my Amex annual statement, I spent about $13,000 on restaurants last year. I have a hard time understanding how a business owner lets a customer like me walk out the door and head to the competition without caring. Has anyone else had similar experiences at this place? Am I crazy?

Many of us have....there have been threads about poor, even arrogant service at the Gaslight before. You're not crazy. |

JRG - sorry to hear about your bad service experience - especially as I live in S.O. Just around the corner from the St James Gate you will find Cent'Anni. We invite you and your Amex card to try us out. Chris. |

LOVE Cent'Anni--I never knew how good it was until I spent a night at Dasti's across the street--we are lucky to have Cent'Anni in our town. The food and the service is wonderful. |

jrg, Had a very similar experience with them, only I wrote them off 3 years ago. Have only poked my head in twice since- just to see if anything had changed. I think the second time I bought one (1) of their mediocre brews. Haven't missed it. |

bak - thank you for your kind comments - please make yourself known to me next time you are in Cent'anni. I am looking forward to providing many more years of good food and service, and looking to raise the bar further. Chris. |

Chris It was a pleasure meeting you a couple of weeks ago. We've been long time customers at Cent'anni and have always enjoyed family dinners there. We were disappointed to see Giacomo and Franco leave (and happy to see them at Lot 15), but were very pleased with our first visit to Cent'anni since you took over. The food and service were as good as ever and it was very heartening to see you kept the staff. Me and my family look forward to seeing you often in the future. (in fact I'll be calling you today for Mother's Day reservations) Regards Tom |

Not to defend bad service but... Never figured out why Gaslight gets all the bad knocks and St. James Gate all the goodies... I went to SJG on St. patty's day and had a really bad experience with the service staff... Been to Gaslight multiple times and always had a good time... Gaslight and Neelam seem to be the lightning rods for bad reviews in SO They have been around for a while and unlike newer guys like TOA are not shutting down, must have a decent number of satisfied patrons na?? Never been to Centanni so cannot comment...

I think Gaslight gets a lot of bad knocks because it is consistently bad. St James Gate isn't. Gaslight is openly rude to many patrons especially if someone has children. Hillsider you are the first person I have ever heard of having a decent experience at the Gaslight. |

Well consider me the second. I've had no issues with Gaslight thus far. In fact, my servers always seem to be particularly pleasant. I can never decide which beer I want, so they gladly bring me samples to try, without any attitude whatsoever. And I like the food too. St. James on the other hand is loud and the service is slow as can be, but the food is OK. |

Hillsider, I don't think judging SJG's service on St. Patty's Day is a day to make fair assessment. It's kinda like saying - why are there long lines at stores two days before Christmas. This was only their 2nd St. Patty's Day to contend with. |

I hate to be picky but please stop calling it St. Patty's Day, its St. Paddy's Day. |
