This may be too late for you....but we really enjoyed a restaurant at the corner of Bleeker and Grove - AOC. The letters stand for something French. They have a back patio, and the salmon dish I had was great. |

I lived in the west Village for over 10 years, here are my ideas to throw in the pot. Mexicana Mama on Hudson between Charles and 10th Street. Reasonably priced gourmet mexican. The place is small and you might have to wait a few minutes but SO SO SO worth it. Everyone I have ever reccomended this place to has ended up thanking me. I get the veggie burrito, my wife gets the barbacoa or chicken mole burrito (all approx. $10). Sublime. Their specials are more expensive but very interesting and fresh -- the fish is always amazing. Oh yeah, the guacomole is the BEST and must be had with chips and salsa. JUST GO!!! OTTO on 8th Street and University -- one of Mario Batali's places. It is actually very reasonable approx. $20/person without alcohol. They specialize in italian style pizza, but the menu has many other options. They have a very wide selection of unique small dishes. My wife and I usually share a pizza and a bunch of sides because the sides are so amazing, and fairly large. They have a great wine and beer selection and I promise a great evening with good ambience and wait staff. One last option, a place called Gobo on 6th Avenue between Waverly and 9th street. It is a chinese/asian place that is for lack of a better explanation gourmet/healthy/vegetarian. The ambience is great, the food is spectacular and you don't need to be a vegetarian to love the food here. In fact everyone I have ever taken here has fallen in love with the place. Prices are very reasonable here too entrees approx. $9-12. Dessert, go to Magnolia Bakery on Bleeker and West 11th St. Yes, your going to have to wait on a stupid line for a bakery but there is a reason why everyone flocks to this place. Most people get the cupcakes, I prefer the German Chocolate cake and my wife goes ga-ga over the banana pudding. I don't go for the swanky expensive places -- I go for delicious. Let me know how it goes. |

Just had a very good meal at Tartine, very cute french place on that confusing corner of West 4th and West 11th. It's a BYO and it's teeny tiny. I met a friend on wed night after work at 7p. When we walked outside at 8:15, there was a line to get in. |

I realize this is too late, but in the West Village I like to eat at Extra Virgin (It), Osteria del Sole (It), Corner Bistro(pub), Alfama (Port.), Voyage (New Amer./Fr.), Delizia (Braz.) to name a few. Check them out on Citysearch.com. Gateway Plumbing & Heating |

Another great West Village restaurant is Home, at 20 Cornelia Street between W. 4th and Bleecker. We've eaten there many times, and it never disappoints. It's tiny and cozy and it has a nice garden for dining in the back. |

Miyagi Japanese Restaurant 212-620-3830 220 W 13th St (just west of 7th Ave) New York, NY 10011 A somewhat intimate setting, and the food is good. |

Oh yeah, Mama Buddha is the best Chinese!! Why can't they make Chinese like that here in NJ? They have the best Hot n' Sour soup I have ever tried. I also like, Cowgirl Hall of Fme on Hudson & 10th Miracle on Bleeker, right where it mets Hudson Da Andrea on Hudson between Peryy & 11th And Alley is right - don't miss Magnolia for dessert! |

ARGGH! magnolia....I forgot where it was. we ended up at Westville on West 10th & Bleecker, we'd been there before and really liked it (they have pretty good desserts, too- we shared the butterscotch pudding and the oversized homemade oreo cookie). As we were ordering dessert, I overheard a girl at the table next to us say "I'll get the cupcakes". I was very close to leaning over and asking "You must be talking about Magnolia, where is it?" but I didn't. And now I wish I did <sniff> next time! |

For baked stuff, I prefer Mary's Off Jane to Magnolia. Two blocks from each other. Mary's Off Jane |

Yeah, I like some stuff from Mary's too. I guess I like different places depending on what I'm craving: I love Mary's Mojito cookies and lemon pound cake. Magnolia for banana pudding and layer cakes. Taylor's for pumkin cookies and Rice Crispie treats. And for brownies, you CANNOT beat Chocolate Bar. All within a few blocks of each other. I LOVE the West Village! |

AlleyGator, actually we never made it into NYC afterall! My parents babysat our 2 month old and I could only get away for a few hours. So we went back to Hoboken for a really nice dinner at Dining Room on 10th and Bloomfield. It was a really nice evening so we sat outside and enjoyed a nice meal a plenty of wine! Thanks for all the good suggestions for the W.Village though! I love Tartine, Agave and 'Ino. and have wanted and will try several of the restaurants suggested. Thanks! |
