I read an article in the Times a few weeks ago about the popularity of places in Manhattan that pair wines and cheeses. It mentioned Murray's Wine Bar in the Village. Has anyone been to this or another place like it they can comment on?

I can heartily second Artisinal - they have fantastic cheeses you can pair yourself or get a "flight" of wine (or champagne) with matching cheeses, etc. Their list of wines by the glass is also excellent. Can you tell this is one of my favorite spots?

The champagne bar Flute also has a delicious cheese plate (not on the menu anymore; you must ask for it) and flights of both wines and champagnes. There's one on 54th between Broadway and 7th and another down by 14th St, near ABC.

Murry's sells cheese to the finest restaurants and hotels in NYC. The cheese's are very unique and therefore very expensive. Terrence Brennan and his staff do the cheese thing very well at Artisnal.

Chanterelle in Tribeca is a regular restaurant that offers what is supposed to be a really incrediable cheese course. ALso, closer to home, I went to the Manor in WO - really gaudy looking wedding factory - for dinner a while back. Big surprise the food was quite good but best of all they had a cheese course that was excellent complete with champagne grapes. Delish.
