Does anyone know of a nice restaurant in the Summit/Chatham/Madison area that can accomodate ~15 of my professional colleagues for a team dinner that won't shuttle us to a back room?

I've had team dinners at Scalini Fedeli which, while it has wonderful food, is impossible to have a conversation with the person next to you because of the room's acoustics.

Verjus in Maplewood has wonderful food and service. Besides they have a room off the main dining room which will seat 15 (I think).

Heart and Soul is about as low as you can get in the ambience department. I know it's heresy to say anything negative about the place, but I think it's far better for takeout than eat in.

Huntley Tavern on the east side of Summit may be able to segregate you from their dinner crowd, particularly on weekdays. It's a great setting, and good food.

Just a quick update. We dined at Serenade and had a wonderful experience. Sophistocated but relaxed environment, beautiful presentation of the meals, attentive service. Definitely will use them again for personal and professional events.
