There is a GOD! Chef Jesse has reopened Heart and Soul for dinner and take out on Thrusdays, Fridays and Saturdays! (I was in mourning when I heard he had closed for the summer to focus on catering gigs.) EVERYBODY--get your butts over there for some of the best darn food you've ever tasted. We must support this place--it's too good to close! ! ! Sit Down, Take Out & Reservations Thursday - 5 :00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Friday - Saturday - 5:00 p.m. - 9: 30 p.m. I had the baby back ribs and homemade mac & cheese over the weekend. OMG---it was SOOOOOOOO GOOD! http://www.heartandsoulrestaurant.com/

Pretty sure the reopening happened two weeks ago. Also, why don't they post the daily menu online? While the food is good, they seem somewhat unsavvy about running a business. (No local advertisements letting folks know they are open, no way except for calling or visiting to find out what's on the menu and what things cost, etc.) I agree that the food is very good. Just wish they'd do a few more simple things to help their survival.

Get To Heart and Soul The name describes exactly how Jessie and his family are operating this restaurant/take out BBQ place. The food is mouth watering good and oh so resonably priced. As has been said in these threads before ... We Can't Let His Business Fail ... everyone needs a little "soul" in their lives. Call him at (973) 763-9005 or drop by and order some ribs. He's locate in the small strip of shops on Academy St in S.O. just off 2nd street. Yummy!! I 'm going back tonite for more ribs! |

I went there for the first time this Friday...and the second time Saturday. The ribs are outrageous, absolutely the best I've had north of the Mason-Dixon line. My kids love the mac & cheese. The salmon was moist and flavorful. The collard greens...I am drooling. Chef Jesse was as sweet and charming as everyone has described. But it's the food that bowled me over. I had to laugh when I saw that Frodo's son had his bar mitzvah catered by Chef Jesse. My family is a little too observant for that -- we'd have to bring in ambulances from NYC to handle all the heart attacks -- but let me tell you, it would almost be worth it. Here's to you, Heart & Soul! |

Jesse's cornbread is so good it'll make you wanna smack yo mama in the mouth (in southern speak that's really good). Loved the ribs and the cabbage, plus red velvet cake for dessert. H&S is the real deal. |
