This looks like a good year to vacation near home so that the aging kids can come back to town if they want to. We're looking for someplace peaceful and "away from it" but with some activities nearby, within an hour or 2 from home, with ocean/lake/river for swimming, for 1 week in Aug. In the past we've stayed in Ocean Grove and loved it, but I'm wondering what else is out there.

Ocen Grove is terrific...for a change, we always enjoyed Wildwood Crest at the end of New Jersey...far enough away to feel like we were on vacation but close enough that we could get home reasonably quickly if we had to. Always stayed at the Beau Rivage on the beach...away from the boardwalk...It is very clean and they continually update the interiors...
Wish we could get down there this summer...Hope you find a good place!

LAKE George, but not in town. We love it, a little more than 2 hours, but def worth the drive. This will be our 8th year there.

Mrs T - where in Lake George do you stay when you go there? Love the lake, but can't stand Lake George village. Do you do a rental?

We do a rental in Cleverdale in the eastern basin. We went to Carey's Motel in Bolton Landing for several years when the kids were smaller and there were lots of kids, nice sandy beach(small) and a floating dock. Very friendly and family oriented. We started renting several years ago, as LUCK would have it a friend who comes up with us, through a patient , gets a great rental for a steal. On the lake with a dock, we take a small sailboat w/us.

I found our 1st rental through the Albany Post Star, late as usual. I can give you the # of the rental we had, there is also a realtor in Cleverdale, can't think of the name right now. You can find them through realtor.com.

We go early August, the lake is warm and weather nice. When we have beautiful clear sunny weather, we call them Lake George Days.

PL me if you want some more info, I'll dig it out of my files.

LilLB,
Try www.owendavies.com, they were helpful last year before we got the insider rental.

The difference between the village and the other areas is drastic. If you want quiet, definately go for the east side of the lake!!!!
