Whatsamatta, no one interested in Mediterranean Cuisine?

I guess I should of thought about why there are no Mediterranean restaurants in town... You guys don't know what you're missing, this stuff is great. Just in case you want a late night snack, we'll be there long after everyone else in town stops serving food!

I have an idea. Does anyone know of any Belly Dancers looking for work? ;-)

Could you post a real menu, maybe prices too?
Sounds promising, but we need more detailed info!

I love hearing about new dining options, but yeah, I have to agree with luv2c, the blatant in my face advertizing is a bit of a turn-off, especially when others have gotten slapped on the wrist by Dave for doing far less.

I too get turned off by the exemption that the Arts seem to have from the advertising rules enforced on other posters.

I generally ignore it, but I think it is poor form to take your free advertising and then yell at us for not responding to it.

Maybe I'll come in some day, but honestly, I live a lot closer to the Dancing Goat, so tend to go there if I'm looking for dinner in a coffeehouse/performance space.

Posted on Friday, April 29, 2005 - 8:50pm:

Heart & Soul is only doing catering for the summer, and Jesse will re-open the restaurant in September. I was hoping to catch one last dinner tonight, but I guess I'm too late. I miss that yummy food already. Can't wait for Memorial Day when I'll bring some of those delicious ribs for the family bbq. Please support Jesse during the summer if you can - we definitely want him back in September!
__________________________________________________

FYI Dego, I advertise on MOL and support every local business in our community every chance I can, especially your friend Jesse, as you requested in your post above.

As for you and your friend Cruiser's comments about my blatant and ruthless in your face advertizing; I suggest you scroll past my posts in the future.

You talk about "In your face advertising". What the hell do you call your comments to me, in my face Ball-Busting? On our "Opening Night" I introduce a brand new food service to town, a couple of new chefs, and that's in your face advertising?

Thanks pal, it's people like you and L2C that scare off other businesses and posters from advertising or even posting on Maplewoodonline... If anyone needs a slap in the face, the two of you sure do!

Chill out Art.

You have a great facility and are promoting it to the hilt, and pay for the privilege. Good for you, great for Maplewood.

But the obnoxious fonts and constant thread bumping gets old. Makes me not want to patronize your place.

Maybe you should try to ignore the hateful tone of the previous posts (really only Cruise's was hateful) and take some constructive criticism. Art G's post was perfect. If your original post had, in a normal font, let people know about your new offerings and posted the menu, and bumped it in a less aggresive tone (like using the word "bump") it wouldn't rub people the wrong way. Many of us old timers are used to your posting style, but it still turns me and probably many newbies off.

"Maybe I'll come in some day..."

Dear Susan1014,

Well, that's better! Thank you, and if and when you do stop in some day, please ask for me, your meal will be on me.

BTW, I believe the problem that Dave has with free advertising is when someone self-promotes who doesn't have a banner ad.

"If your original post had, in a normal font, let people know about your new offerings and posted the menu, and bumped it in a less aggressive tone (like using the word "bump") it wouldn't rub people the wrong way."

Thanks Wendyn... I know I could be perfect for everyone else if:

1. If I just lost 25 lbs.
2. If I cut my hair shorter.
3. If I stopped using obnoxious fonts.
4. If I didn't thread bump.
5. If I ignored the hateful tone of some posts.
6. If I was more like Art G.
7. If I took more constructive criticism.
8. If I was more normal like everyone else.
9. If I was less aggressive.
10. If I didn't rub people the wrong way.
11. If I would change my style.
12. If I could only be perfect like who?

Listen, besides Joan Crystal, who else should I try to be more like? ;-)

And wear your hair long, so I can live vicariously through you. Mine used to look like yours.

Seriously, you really made the point above, anyway. We're not perfect, and we can apologize for that, and you did, yet we are still lovable.

And while we're on a thread about your cafe, I'm really impressed with how fast it has taken off. A lot happens there. It wasn't long ago when it was just a concept.

More like Art G, as I said! Though Joan is always a good role model.

Seriously keep up the good work, both at H2TA and Maplewood in general. I am looking forward to trying H2TA out...as soon as I am actually going out to dinner. That happens very infrequently now I am afraid.

I think one Joan is enough for MOL, you stay the way you are Art.

As for the bigger issue of using the boards as a form of advertising (NOT THROUGH AD BANNERS), all I can say is that there is no rule that I know of that says that if you buy an ad on MOL it means you can start your own threads about your business. If that was the case how many ads does one need to invest to gain this priviledge? Is it an ongoing payment that you need to make? If Dave would just post the rules I think there would be less complaining about it. This is NOT the first time this issue has come up and I am ALWAYS curious why Dave or Jamie usually ignores the whole thread and posts no reply. I am NOT a business owner and I like H2tA so it's not like you can say I have an invested interest in this matter other than the following fact. MOL would become FAR less useful and pleasant to use if all of the other MOL banner ad buyers started creating their own threads to tell us about their great services. It isn't hard to imagine a time when I go into the Home Fixit section and 3/4 of the threads are actually telling us about a new sale or service at some local home decorator, plumber, landscaper, etc. Now imagine if ALL the sections were like that and it was hard to find the actual content that the users posted from the infomercial posts.

My personal feeling on the matter is this though: If Dave doesn't state what the rules are, you have to expect people to be confused and for there to be issues that arise. I also feel that if it's fair game to post a thread that promotes your store (WHICH IS AN ADVERTISEMENT NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT) and an event at your store, then you need to realize that other people might criticize you. Heres a news flash for you all, PEOPLE HATE ADVERTISEMENTS, they are a nuisance. The popularity of Tivo is mostly because people love the idea of being able to skip commercials. Now I understand that this post was MEANT to be informational and many took it that way, but you have no right to jump down someones throat for also feeling it was just a straight up advertisment and being irritated by it. Sorry but that is my 2 cents.

And don't you just love it when a store owner berates you for not paying enough attention to their product? A very unique marketing strategy.

I don't know guys - I'm not a fan of Art's use of fontage, but if he didn't let us know that H2tA's was now serving dinner, how would we know? I don't mind him letting us know what's new and improved. As for the hair - one bald Art and one long locked Art - perfect together!

Alleygater,

Thank you for YOUR clear and well stated comments. I have to agree with you on the advertising points you're making. It's a problem, and I guess I'm not helping matters with my posting style.

However, I truly believe there's a need for different kinds of local businesses and organizations to spread the word about upcoming events. As you said, I agree it would help if there were some on-line guidelines that helped clarify where, when, and how often we can self promote these events, if at all...

IMHO, to a small degree there's always a need to self promote, and whether it's done by the owner, or a friend of the owner is where I have my problem with the whole concept.

Not all businesses will do it anyway. Libby as an example has never posted on line and is frightened to death when I do, or if her business name is mentioned in a thread. She doesn't want to be trashed by some customer who got less than perfect service at her salon. Unfortunately, sooner or later we all screw up and that's one of the costs of being in your own business. How we handle ourselves when we do is where we separate the men from the boys....

Listen, I'll make you a deal. (I love deals.) Until we get some better guide lines, I'm going to take the advice of you and others and stop my so called annoying posting style when directly or indirectly self promoting.

With other posts, I will also agree to stop using all the other gismo's, size, color, font, etc. when they are removed from the Message Board... Fair enough?

BTW, don't forget about SOMBI and Janet Albright tonight... ;-)

Yes BGS, we're very sorry to say it did...

Jesse said he needed to work his own store and was getting too busy with his catering to be over here on Wednesday nights. It was sure great while it lasted, and our customers loved it.

We actually totally understand. His food is sooooo gooood....

We hope to try again to do some special events with him in the Fall when things calm down more for him.

In the mean time we're very excited about doing our own thing here Wednesday through Saturday nights. You know how it goes, one door closes and another opens. So far its been a great response from everyone.

Honestly, I don't know how much longer we could have kept it going just selling coffee and dessert. If it wasn't for doing all the private parties and events we would have had to close months ago.

BTW, if you can believe it, in two weeks we're pleased to say we'll be celebrating our 1st year Anniversary Party!!!
