I noticed that Khun Thai in Short Hills had tables set up out front when i drove by recently. There's Bunny's, and Toro Loco... although the latter has tables in an alley, so it's not exactly what i have in mind.

What other places are there in the neighboring towns?

Lot 15 in SO has tables outside, and maybe Voro.

Fore Seasons at the golf course in Millburn has outside tables. Brix in Summit. Thai Chef in Montclair. I like Toro's outside seating.

I think Tinga and Samarai in Millburn, as well as Bagel Chateau (Millburn, not sure about Maplewood). Love eating breakfast outside of BC on the weekend!

Also Broadway Grill and La Pastaria in Summit.

I LOVE eating outside for Toro Loco - yes, it's in an alley, but they've made the atmosphere back there quite nice. You get the outdoor experience without feeling your eating on a random side walk.

I ate outside at La Strada once and was quite pleased with it. I didn't know Panevino had outdoor seating - that's one of my favorite restaurants, I'll have to check it out.

Exactly -- Toro's seating is much nicer than being on the sidewalk sucking exhaust. Another outside place -- Scotty's! Nothing like sitting outside watching Morris Avenue go by and drinking a GIANT beer. I love Scotty's.

"(Millburn, not sure about Maplewood)"

Dear Wendyn,

How do you feel about me saying that H2TA paid Maplewood for the privlege of having tables and chairs out on Baker Street, or is this just more self-promoting?

Dear Art,
if you re-read the other thread you will hopefully understand that I have no problem with your self/H2TA promoting. Especially since you pay for it. And especially since this time you used a normal font.

Good to know that you have outside dining.

If my post was misunderstood I meant that I know that the Millburn Bagel Chateau has outdoor seating since I have been there. I do not know if the Bagel Chateau in Maplewood or for that matter Summit has outdoor seating.

I was in Montclair a couple of days ago and was delighted to discover Church Street, just off Bloomfield Avenue and off the main road so no traffic fumes and minimal traffic noise.

There are some lovely cafes & restaurants there with outside dining (and lots of pretty flowers in hanging baskets and planters...reminded me very much of being back home in England). For the life of me I can't remember the name of the dining places, one was a grill/American food place (Redmond's maybe?) but there is a (nice) Chinese place, a new pizza restaurant and lots of nice shops in between (antiques, outdoor adventure, coffee & tea supplies, hairdressers, boutiques etc.)

I think one would need to book on a Friday or Sat night....there is a big street festival on in this shopping area this weekend (Friday, Sat and Sunday) with a shuttle service from the Montclair Art Museum (free parking). If I can find the website I'll post it later.

Raymond's and Taro. My FAVORITE place -- it has one scrappy table to eat take-out on is Beyond Pita at the other end of Church Street. Hmmm, I fantasize about their chicken kabob.

Raymonds - I love that place. The food is fantastic, fairly reasonable, byo and family friendly.

The new place VORO has tables outside.

Aha! I found the leaflet about the 'Summer Prelude' which is taking place this weekend:

Friday June 10 from 5pm-9pm there is "Jazz on Church Street"...dine & shop until nine.

Saturday June 11 from 10am-6pm it's the "Montclair Center Sidewalk Sale" - shuttle along Bloomfield Ave & Art Museum with stops at various streets for shopping (free parking at municipal lots, Hillside school & art museum).

Sunday June 12; "Shop & Stroll"...'a lunch table awaits, the shopping is great, the strollers are out, it's what Spring's all about!'

I was at the British shop "The London Food Co." a few doors down from Liberte and they're having a performer in from the UK to sing on Saturday afternoon (4pm I think).

Yes, it was 'Raymond's' not Redmonds and it did seem popular at lunchtime when I walked by...and I intend to try 'Taro' (which I'd forgotten was East Asian influenced, not just Chinese). The 'Church Street Cafe' looked good too. I really liked the ambience of this street.

"Liberte" restaurant (on the corner of Church and Bloomfield) was in the midst of being redecorated but still seemed to be open to diners....they do have a patio out the back...you can see photos on this link under their restaurant heading, as well as for all the dining places in Montclair:

http://www.montclaircenter.com/browse.html?category=C-DI

(Just look under the listings for their address - Church Street is the one which definitely had outside dining).

Toro Loco: We eat outside there all the time.

Voro: You're going to feel like you're on a stage. Bright lights glaring at you (the ones that illuminate the restaurant), and it's a small area with a lot of foot traffic going in and out of the place. I like Voro, but wouldn't pay that price to sit outside.

feel free to stop by...the table and chairs are out (waiting to be picked up for tomorrow's block party). I unfortunately will not be home tonight though. Enjoy the garden and feel free to use the swingset, the various balls strewn about, or the two 100 oz. Super Soakers in the yard. If that doesnt satisfy you, go downstairs and get the badminton set or the bocce set.

Nice bocce! Our game of choice as well. So Wendy since Hank won't be there, I guess we'll have to do a little more cooking....

Maybe next weekend. After salivating about Hank's luncheon choices week after week, maybe we can guilt him into a real face to face dining experience (pot luck of course as long as Hank makes his specialties).
