I'm having a BBQ for 70 people this weekend, and there's no way we can cook all of the food ourselves, so other than grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, we're not even going to try. We're thinking of bringing in the standards - potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, etc. - plus some sloppy joes. I know a bunch of places around here do sloppy joe platters, but has anyone really researched where you get the best bang for your buck? If not, i'll probably go with the millburn delicatessen, because we like their joes the best and they'll cater most of the other stuff. They don't do corn on the cob though. Dave's BBQ on 22 does, as does the big Kings in short hills. Does anyone know of somewhere else that might do it too that's a little closer? Finally, someone is making deviled eggs for us, and we'll have watermelon and a veggie platter. Anything else that would be fun to get foodwise that you'd suggest? We've got desserts covered. |

The best deal is probably Burnet BBQ on Springfield Avenue. They do chicken, steak, shrimp, ribs, etc. Very inexpensive. Try it first to see if you like it. Some do. Some don't. |

Churches Kitchen is open Saturday not Sundays ... we got trays of fried chicken, ribs and mac n cheese and it was perfect. If there are kids -- the chicken nuggets were great too.

We recently had a barbeque and ordered a tray of Sausage and Peppers from Antonio's that was a big hit. Unfortunately, I don't think it would fit into the category of "best bang for the buck." It was $80 for the tray plus the cost of rolls. We had about 25 people - maybe 15 or so adults and one full tray was more than enough. |

Whatever happened to Marshall's Ribs? I used to get a rack or two of ribs, or a smoked salmon, pretty cheap. Is he around anymore? Does anyone know how to reach him? |

Is Church's chicken actually open for people to go there and eat? Where is it? I'm starting to get sick of our old stand-bys. |

and Judy Church is the nicest women. I don't eat fried chicken very often but next time I do it will be drumsticks from Churches and their mac and cheese. |

When Judy's there the chicken is wonderful...inconsistent otherwise (at least the all telling breast pieces - you have to try pretty hard to ruin thighs and drumsticks). The collards are mighty tasty and you might as well not even go if you're not bringing home some cobbler - it's worth the extra time on the treadmill. Oh, and call ahead so you don't have to wait around. |

When working with a food service establishment just ask for something that may not be on their menu, like the corn on the cobb. If they want your business and you give enough notice, most will give you what you want. Also, $80 for a tray of sausage is not really that bad. Their cost was probably about $35. That works out to a 43% food cost. Most restaurants try to run in the 30's for a food cost. |
