Ok, my memory is slipping. I remember a discussion here on MOL within the past few months about a newly opened restaurant in, I thought, West Orange, but I could be wrong about that. It sounded nice and I wanted to try it, but...I can't remember tha name and I can't find it in the archives.

I remember someone saying they went in and happened to meet the owner(/chef), who had some kind of impressive background. I remember the place was very new and I recall something about the owner saying that his favorie place was Jocelyne', but he was disappointed that his place was closed on the same night as they are.

Does my vague description ring a bell for anyone?

Might you be talking about Voro in South Orange? This is the thread about that restaurant.

Was it Wish at 500 Pleasant Valley Way in Pleasantdale, formerly occupied by Primavera? It's at (973) 669-9911.

Ah ha!

Yes, thank you, I believe it was Wish I was thinking of. But now reading about Voro (and seeing their web site)...that sounds nice as well...but frankly, I'm not sure I'm cool enough to go there.

Thank you.

Now that I was reminded of the name, I was able to find the original discussion:

As long as you have the money to pay for your meal, I don't think they really care if you're cool or not. Do you think you're cool? If so, that's all that matters. Who cares what others think.

You may want to hold off on Wish. Since the owner does not like to pay his staff many of his employees have left (including the head chef), leaving the place with sub standard service and food.
I also heard they were closed down for a couple days 2 weeks ago due to rodent problems. Not my type of etablishment.

Went to Wish a week ago Saturday and it was still yummy. Crowded too. Had the same waitress we had when we went months ago. Service still very good. Calamari better even than Arugula's and I love Arugula's.

Serious allegations Mrs. W. (I hope you are maligning them based on first hand knowledge rather than rumors).

We finally tried it out and had a lovely meal there over the weekend, so I'm hoping you are wrong. Nice menu, excellent food, lovely ambience.

Went to Wish two weekends ago and the food was great. The waitress was extremely helpful in explaining the menu choices.

Pay no attention whatever to The Weinster. He/she has clearly transformed a mere grudge against Town Hall Deli (where, might I hazard a guess, he/she may perhaps have been employed at one time???) to a more pathological level (trust me: I know a pathological grudge against a Village eatery when I see one...), where he/she now also seems interested in defaming any restaurant employing former THD staff.

Whatever else Mr/Ms W. is (a runner, semi-sports fan, and Bunnie's booster to name a few things), he/she clearly has no credentials as a critic or reporter on the cuisine available at "Wish".

-s.

BTW: I intend to enjoy many special evenings there, and at VORO as well. Quit whining, Mrs.

There are no THD employees at WISH. There were, but not any more. Due to reasons I have already given. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you go around questioning my knowledge. Everything I posted was true. Don't believe me, you can ask the owner Brett, not that your are likely to get a straight answer. Soda you are a fraud. What credentials do you have? You are allowed to post your restaurant critique, I can post mine. It seems as though you are very intersted in what I have to say on these boards, and that is pretty sad. Hopefully next week at 8:30 on a Saturday night you may have some plans, but I doubt it. At least you will have my posts to dwell on, I will try not to disappoint, for your weekend appearently depends on it.

Mrs. W., there is a serious difference between restaurant critiques (opinions based on having dined there), and allegations of non-payment of employees and rodent problems.

If you are operating from real, validated knowledge, your comments belong here. If not, they are slander. I don't know which is true.

Attacking or responding to Soda the way you did doesn't add to your credibility as a source.

To deduce what I did about Mrs. W. took no more than a quickie MOL search of all 43 of her posts, none of which amounted to more that two or three lines. I hadn't the interest or patience to delve much beyond that. It took maybe four minutes, which approaches my self-imposed limit on research time spent on posters lacking any taste or wit...

-s.

BTW: I never planned to order a Sloppy Joe at "WISH" anyhow, so ex-THD employees weren't real high on my reasons for dining there.

Just a couple of wild guesses:
(A) Mr. W's last check is still waiting for him at the restaurant, and
(2) Chef Brett knows just who he is...

-s.

BTW: Look for "WISH" to be reviewed in this coming Sunday's NYT. (Of course, I expect that Mr. Weiner doesn't read that publication, but many other folks do, and they will undoubtedly be calling for reservations at this excellent W.O. bistro.

Just wanted to thank all of the people who have supported Wish since we have opened!!!
It is true that the restaurant has been reviewed by the New York Times and will be published this Sunday in the New Jersey section.
I hope all of you will be in to see us soon for a fabulous meal.

As for Mrs_Weiner also known as Mr. Clayton All of us at Wish, wish him the best of luck in any future job he is able to obtain. It is sad that he has resorted to such childish behavior because I did not give him a day off. Also the fact that Mr. Clayton suggested the Chef has left us is untrue. Strange being that I am the Chef/owner.
My wife, son and i can't wait to meet you all.

Rationality, appreciation of culinary skill, and support of worthy fledgling businesses is the disease.

Well, my wife and I will come by one night when we can get babysitting (and after a Sunday NYT review, perhaps only when we can get a reservation!).

Brett Winter,

You will be happy to know that Mrs. Weiner is not Mr Clayton. Sorry to disappoint you. Also, you should be aware that one of the general rules of this message board is not to "out" another poster. If someone wishes to be known they will post their own name. But, more importantly, you are posting false information.

Mayor, you should know by now that SODA knows all, how dare you question his information. Sorry I have not responded earlier, but at 97.6 years old, you tend to sleep through the week days. I hope you eat at WISH everynight SODA. It will bring a smile to my face knowing that you are eating bug infested food. Bon Appitite.

Since I'm sure that Chef Brett had no intent to convey innacuracies or break MOL rules, and since nobody ever really cares what Mr. Mayor has to say (suddenly so well-informed, McCheese!?), and since I have no doubt that Mr/Mrs Weiner doesn't read the NYT (the print's way too small for somone of his/her vintage, and the words are way too long...), I can only request -- in terms most clear and culinarily appropriate -- that you both BITE ME.

-s.

BTW: The review speaks for itself.

S.O.D.A.

Big words. I said nothing to you. I simply pointed out one of the guidelines for posting on MOL, and told this Chef Brett that he is posting misinformation. What does that have to do with you? And, you printing such a nasty post means that obviously you care about my posts. I'll take you disagreeing with me as a compliment.

Cheesie: Shall we discuss misinformation? Check the Weinster's remarks about the subject of this thread. Pure piffle.

Shall we discuss outing? IMHO, The Weinster deserves outing, but of course -- per your non-credible (& bizarrely out of the blue) interjection -- Mrs. Weiner is not somebody named Clayton. Ergo, Chef Brett (his real name) did not break an MOL rule.

Shall we discuss how much credence I have in either his/her or your posts?

So let me get this straight, it's not OK to out someone. But, if you try to, and get it wrong it is OK?

What would lead you to believe that I would not be a credible source? I happen to know the identity of Mrs. Weiner, and know for a fact that it is not Mr. Clayton.

As for what you think of my posts, I really don't care. You are just some person with too much time on their hands with nothing of interest to say.

I will end it with this. Believe or don't believe what you want. I know you need to have the last word, so go ahead, but I wash my hands of you and am walking away from this.
