Any recommendations for a beat-the-heat summer resort or B&B in the Burlington, Vermont area?

We're looking for a place where we can do some wading/swimming with our toddler, short hikes, hi-chair equipped dining, etc., preferably with a little luxury for us parents too. Restaurant tips would also be appreciated!

I've haven't been there since I was a kid, but The Tyler Place - the setting of many of my best childhood memories - continues to get rave reviews. (Back in the 70's, Mrs. Tyler sent a note to my newly-separated parents urging them to "kiss and make up" so that we could continue our annual family vacation there. Sigh.)

We loved the Highland Lodge in Greensboro Vermont. Beautiful, good food, friendly to kids.

I was turned off when I looked into Tyler Place because my understanding is that kids are not allowed into the dining room during adult dinner hour. They dine with the other kids, earlier, so that parents can have romantic dinners. That's great for some people, but I feel weird about it.

Ah, Vermont! One of my favorite towns an hour or so north of Burlington is Montgomery Vermont. I went to UVM and I had a boyfriend who did summer theater there. Covered bridges, unbelievable waterfalls, swimming holes, etc. I don't know about lodgings there, though.

Johnny Seasaw's is popular with families. It wouldn't consider it luxury, but it's very close to Manchester, VT, which is full of luxury (including great shopping and restaurants).

We have a time share at Smugglers Notch, www.smuggs.com, an hour from Burlington and 20 minutes from Stowe. A wonderful family resort with lots of planned activities, kids camps for all ages, great pool areas, hiking, etc. While it isn't inexpensive, you'll have a place with a full kitchen, so you can save money on eating out. (We bring all our own food and only eat out 1 or 2 nights.) Lots of good restaurants in Stowe. If you sit thru the 90 minute timeshare presentation (very low key and no pressure to buy), you can get significant discounts on rates.

We've stayed at the Stoweflake: http://www.stoweflake.com/_pgid_19__index.aspx

Very family friendly and lots to do. Plus it's a spa for mom's and dad's.
