Planning to go to Vegas with kids 9 + 7. Circus Circus on paper sounds like an ideal property for kids, yet I've heard indirectly that it is not a great place to stay. Does anyone have any experience there and/or can you recommend a hotel in Vegas that is reasonably priced that would be good for kids. Thanks for your input

Circus Circus is not one of the fancier hotels but it is a more family oriented place. Another place you could try is the Excalibur, they have a large game area for kids downstairs from the lobby that has lots of boardwalk type games and the price of rooms is much more reasonable than some of the other hotels. We have stayed there about 5 times and the rooms are nice, nothing extravagent.

MGM Grand isn't as overtly kiddie themed, but has a very good pool, with a float river, as well as the only onsite drop-off care facility on the Strip. We used it for one nice kiddie-free dinner (in truth, we only used it because we passed it each time we went to the pool and our 4 year old decided that she really wanted to spend a little time there with other kids!). Also has a live lion exhibit and a Rainforest Cafe, if I recall.

Our room there was excellent (it was off-season, so we upgraded). Obviously more than Circus Circus, but not as high as the new premium places.

But, oh my g-d...on our trip, we went thru Vegas briefly in the summer, to visit relatives on the way to the West Coast. It was literally too hot to go outside for anything more than crossing the street or going to the pool.

Circus Circus reminded me of a dirty old carnival that smelled like elephant poop. But i didn't have kids when i was there, so maybe my perspective would be different now. It's also at the end of the strip, away from most of the action, so it's not ideal location-wise. Excalibur struck me as the second most kid-friendly place, but susan makes a good argument for the MGM Grand, which is right across the street. That's where we decided we'll stay the next time we go out, kids or not.

With the monorail now open, the outdoor temperature is just a statistic. :-)

Passed through Circus Circus 14 years ago when I was staying at the Las Vegas Hilton. Wasn't special then, probably less so now, but they did have $1 blackjack at the time.

The MGM Grand is very conveniently located for casino hopping, and the tariff won't be as steep as some of the newest hotels.

Thanks, you've whetted my appetite for what we refer to in our consulting practice as a "probability seminar".

We took the family one year and stayed at The Aladdin. Nice, fairly priced, convienant. As adults we prefer The Bellagio., very cool.
