Please can anyone advise me of a mountain/lake vaccation? We would drive 3-4 hours. Looking for a cabin or a resort with a swimming pool, near activities for a 3yr old, shopping etc Thanks for your help..... |

Of course, there are great places in the Catskills, too, and even the Adirondacks, which are about four hours north on 287 to 87 (NYS thruway.) Shawnee is 78 West to 33 North. It's also about three hours from Maplewood.

Swimmer, My in-laws have a place in the Berkshires and we love going up there. Lots of stuff to do, great shopping, fabulous restaurants, AND you can have mountains plus a lake, depending on where you stay. It's a really easy, nice drive too. We avoid the NY Thruway and take the Taconic Parkway (which is much more scenic and has no trucks) and we still get up there in less than four hours.
