You're sure to get many responses, because there are a lot of worthwile places. My personal favorites are Bunny's in South Orange for eat-in and Maplewood Pizza on Valley St. for delivery. |

It really depends on how you define pizza. Bunny's, hands down, has the best bar pie. If you like toppings, Resivoir has an "everything" pizza that will knock your socks off. Roman Gourmet has a great broccoli & chicken or eggplant pizza. The Trattoria makes a really good buffalo chicken pizza & double crust pies. If you don't mind traveling a bit - the Star Tavern in Oranger makes great pizza (white clam sauce w/extra garlic is to die for!) |

I have yet to find pizza I LOVE in town. I was always a big fan of Two Boots, and there is nothing as tasty or with such high quality ingredients around here. I promise you that people are going to disagree and everyone is going to throw out lots of competing pizzerias as "the best" but it's not like there really is any great variety. You get like 10 different places that are all equally mediocre. For "normal style" pizza, in the village there is Arturo‘s Brick Oven Pizza which is pretty good (but not amazing. For thin crust (bar-pie) there is Bunny's and Resevoir Pizza, which are both acceptable. I warn you though, order extra bar pies, since they are small. My wife and I can finish a large pie and share a salad. Other places we could NEVER finish a large pie. I suppose your kids aren't pizza epicurians though (like me) so I am sure they will be fine with our local 'za offerings. also don't miss the local restaurant list. maplewoodonline.com/restaurant/ You could always do a search for the word "pizza", this is NOT a new topic of conversation for us. |

Hi Mary- We like Pizza Primo on Springfield Ave 763-8777- IMHO great 'classic' Newark pizzeria style food. The pizza chains have their fans also- Papa John's in Maplewood and Domino's and Pizza Hut in South Orange. |

Maplewood Pizza on Valley St. is the best. Also ask for one of their veggie rolls. Those things are great and only about $3. |

I love Arturo's. The sad thing is that my kids don't, so we don't get to buy family meals there. Trattoria is good, and they have a big menu. Roman Gourmet now has whole wheat pizza. And they're super nice to kids there. I also like Maplewood Pizza and Pizza Primo.

If you're up for a ride, there is a place in Parsippany/Boonton also called Resevoir Tavern (in this case, it's actually on/near the Jersey City reservoir in Parsippany). It's about 25 minutes or so up 280/287. It, in my opinion, surpasses Star and Bunny's for thin crust (although we're big fans of both those institutions). All of the above suggestions are good ones, though. |

We have followed Pizza Primo from another location on Springfield Avenue and their pizza is my husband's favorite. Before we got married my husband had never had "store bought" pizza. When we discovered Pizza Primo he said "now this is like Nana's". Pete and Eileen are also great people too! Give them a try....they are across the street from NetNomads and they deliver. |

I'm in Maplewood, and whenever I order a pizza for delivery (which is generally once a week), I order from Arturo's and I get half plain for the kids, half mexicana for me, which I love. I order it on traditional crust though, because the thin crust doesn't stand up to all the yummy toppings on the mexicana. They also have a "greco" pizza, which is yummy: pine nuts, pesto and feta cheese. Mmmmm, mmmm, good! If I feel like going in to town to pick it up myself, I'll often go to Trattoria and get a whole bunch of slices, because everyone likes something different: hubby likes the buffalo chicken, I like the eggplant parm, my oldest likes pepperoni and the other two like plain. If I'm going to eat pizza in the restaurant, I'll usually do Arturo's because it's way less of a zoo than Trattoria and my boys like to watch the trains go by. Don't ever really do Roman Gourmet because I've never been that impressed by it when I have eaten there. |

As I was downing a $1 slice of Pappa Johns on the bench along SA a weekend ago, a dude walked up to me and asked what I know about good pizza. I apparently did not know as much as he... He proceded to tell me there'sa guy from Italy on SA down in the Irvington area, called Bruno's Pizzeria. He swears they have the best pie around these parts! Has anyone heard/ate Bruno's pizza? I usually will swing into the Village Trattoria and eat my pizza there, or bring one home. I think Trattoria's pizza's are very good! Resovoir's are too greasy, and Bunny's came with too much cigarette smoke for my taste. Star in W.O. was just so-so I thought. |

To get to Star Tavern...just keep going on Scotland Road.....it turns into High Street, Star Tavern will be on the right, 400 High Street. There are so many different kinds of pizza around here, it just depends what kind you're in the mood for. One of my favorites is the buffalo chicken pizza from the Trattoria.

King's Pizza and Joe's Pizza- they shared a parking lot and terrific pizza. How many people ordered from both and "taste tested" them on the hood of a car? No clear winner, but plenty of enjoyment eating! |

I too am a big Two Boots fan (still am since I go once a week to the one in the catacombs of Rock Center). I also prefer Arturos (generally) over all the other pizza's in the area, but have you ever noticed that the crust sometimes gets a big chewy? I guess I notice that the dough has an odd texture. I also don't think that the ingredients/toppings are incredible -- instead they are just better than their competitors (which in my opinion is saying NEARLY NOTHING). Think about the quality and creativity of the toppings at Two Boots for instance. |

For delivery, I go with Maplewood Pizza - at first, just for convenience, but the pizza is really good! When I was growing up, in South Orange, we ordered from Reservoir all the time. It still is good. We also went to Starlight on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange. It's a bit of a drive, but the pizza was always fantastic. Anyone been there recently? Is it still good? By the way, for pizza by the slice, the Roman Gourmet is our choice -- mostly because, as was stated before, they are just so nice to everyone. |

We often have ordered from Village Pizzeria. They are on South Orange Ave toward Seton Hall, but deliver in Maplewood as well. Usually we have been pretty satisfied (one or two problems in 15+ years.) If we are going to eat in then Trattoria or Roman Gourmet are usually our choice, although at that point I will usually choose pasta instead. We briefly patronized Papa John's when they first opened, mostly in deference to our kids who prefer it, but then had some real delivery/charge snafus so we don't call them any more. I find that Reservoir's pizza is usually very greasy ... was I just unlucky on the several occasions that I had it? |
