Has this ride re-opened yet? We were hoping to take my son and a few pals to 6 Flags for this ride at the end of the month but if it's still not operating, we'll consider other options.

Has anyone here been on Kingda Ka?

Don't know its current status.

Went with kids and found 3.5 hour wait, which we skipped to enjoy our day in the park. On the way out, I stopped at customer service regarding an unrelated matter, and everyone else was complaining about 5-7 hours waits, ending with an out-of-service notification.

I'm sorry, but no amount of hype and no 90-second ride justifies standing in the sun for 5-7 hours. I can only assume that these poor souls' minds were affected by excessive sun exposure and junk food consumption.

The silver lining to the Kingda Ka fiasco is that the ride probably siphons a few thousand people off of the other rides.

Tom, I saw that webpage but the NOTICE is dated June 14th. I was looking for some newer status info.

¢¢, when did you go and find Kingda Ka in operation?

Here's a thread from ThemeParkInsider.com discussing the recent problems:

I would assume with the investment that was made that as soon as the status of the ride changes the six flags web site would be updated immediately. Until then I would figure that the ride is in the same state of non-amusement. Hence the current crop of commercials that are only selling the Kingdom and not the coaster.

I saw it in operation May 27th.

If you can't wait for the folks in the Pine Barrens to figure out how to fix Kingda Ka, check out Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster -- the original version of this unbelievable ride -- and the undisputed "roller coaster capital of the world" (http://www.cedarpoint.com/). It's just a stone's throw to the west of Cleveland, on the southern shore of Lake Erie.

Cleveland!? Ohio? Hey, me, I don't get on roller coasters. Nope. None. Zero. Zilch. My kids do and I'm happy to take them. But to Cleveland? Hahahahaha!

Snirsch, I think you're right about marketing aganst their investment but, please, 6F, update the freakin' website, huh?

Soulful Mr T: The Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, alone, is well worth the trip. Cedar Point is in Sandusky, about 60-90 minutes to the west; and, your kids will think you're Kingda Ka!

Otherwise, as soon as Six Flags re-opens KK, buy your tickets online, go on a Tuesday/Wednesday, arrive 30 minutes before the gate opens, tell your kids to run as fast as they can to this ride. It's deep into the left side of the park, after you enter. Six Flags also was selling season passes for the full price of two admissions; and, holders get entry one hour earlier on certain days. The things we do for our kids.

Two,

Spoken like someone originally from Ohio.

I apologize for my someone-originally-from-New York-sounding rant.

However, in spite of its many attractions and positive attributes, it's not likely we'll get to Cleveland this summer.

Nor to 6F either, it seems.

Insider info: Kindga Ka is closed for the rest of the season due to problems with the hydraulic (sp?) system... Apparently the cars were being shot out so fast that the rubber on the tires was melting onto the track!! Needless to say it was dangerous!
