This thread had already been archived so i had to start it again. I finally was able to track down some Old Speckled Hen. I contacted the brewer who put me in touch with the North American Distributor and it turns out it's as easy as going to the Wine Library and asking them to order it.

I'll ask them to order some and if I can convice them to stock it on a regular basis I'll let you know and you can pick up a six and give some 'Speckly' a try

You can get Hen on draught at Nathan Hales donwtown Manhatten. A great chugging beer.

Yep, Hen is good stuff! They always seem to have it in stock (as well as a bunch of other interesting beers) at my local liquor store - Total Wine in Essex Green, West Orange.

... while we're on the topic - what's everyone's favorite refreshing beer for a hot summer's day?

For me it would have to be an Amstel, Stella Artois, or Fosters.

It would have to be a Boddington's. Light and
refreshing.

Ah - Boddingtons. Yes, good choice! I'd also add Caffreys to the list as well.

Caffreys, hmmm... I don't know if I have ever tried that. (I probably have, and have forgotten) But I think I will see if I can find some today, and give it a try.

Old Shipyard Ale from Kennebukport, Maine -
Arrrgh! Tasty!

Also can't beat a Brooklyn Lager, if you can't find the above....

Hands Down best beer for a hot summer's day -- a frigidly cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Man,

I agree with you. Also try Chimay Blue on a cold night. It's also righteous.

Second the Sierra Nevada. Excellent brew. How 'bout that old standby, a Corona w/ a lime. Nothing quite like it on a hot day in this poster's estimation (indeed, I'm enjoying one right now while surfing MOL and watching the Yankees play out in Anaheim).

At the pub I like drinking things like Old Speckled Hen and Boddingtons etc but on a hot summer day I like beers like Carib or Modelo and I hate to admit it but after mowing the lawn when it's ninety degrees even a Miller High Life will do

Arnomation, I agree with that high life. While I enjoy some expensive beers, I also enjoy the high life, the champagne of beers.

Although, with pizzaz making these suggestions maybe he will make you one. I think it would be great to see pizzaz behind the bar there. I have heard that he can make one hell of a bottled beer behind that bar. I for one would love to see him take one night and give us all a show of his skills. Pizzaz, what do you say? I don't think I am the only one who wants to see this.

Does anyone know where I could find Strongbow cider locally (or even regionally)?

I'm looking for both Strongbow on tap and to find imported cans...

I wish there was a bar in the area that had some of these great brews on tap. The beer snob in me was very let down at my options at the local pubs.

What is the most interesting (out of the ordinary) beers on tap in the area?

Speckled Hen, Caffrey's, Boddington are all outstanding when poured fresh from draught at a pub. I have always been dissapointed by the bottled/can versions of these great brews (even the cans with the little whatchamacallits that rattle around inside).
Miller Hi-Life???? Great beer when you don't want flavor and there's no potable water on hand.

Exactly! There's no real flavor to it so it's perfect when you're dying of thirst and it's ice cold

I'd try calling places like the Wine Library and seeing if they can order it. I think most places have no problem doing so because they can't stock everything. It worked for me with the Old Speckled Hen

I used to like Celis White, a belgian style wheat beer. Apparently it had gone out of production for awhile, but now it's being brewed again by another company. Anybody had it lately? is it the same as in the past? and is there any place to get it around here?
