Summary: Slice of hip Manhattan in SO.; expensive, innovative, large pours, excellent space, good looking waitresses...

My wife & I went to VORO on Friday evening, got there @ 6:45. We sat in the bar area, comfortable couches, had drinks and appetizers only; weren’t too hungry... The dress code was "upscale casual"; we were more casual than upscale & brought down the average

Good service, decent food, couldn't ask for more... A great addition to SO...

Had 1 glass of NZ Sauvignon Blank, 1 glass of Oregon Pinot Noir, 1 glass of Conundrum white from Caymus, 1 Gin & Tonic Sapphire (this was huge), Humus plate + Baked Brie in Sourdough with apples, 1 small olive plate gratis, 1 Dark+white Chocolate Fondue with fruits (chocolate should have been heated a bit longer), 1 glass of Taylor 10 year tawny, total damage ~ $83… Uh.. did I mention, we are alcoholics...

I was witing to pick a fight for including a 20% tip; never happened... <grin>

The dinner menu looked exciting, not like WD 50 but phenomenal for a place just a few blocks from home… Actually saw a bunch of diners who had come in with their kids… Will go back for dinner…

I also checked out their lounge upstairs, a stunning space overlooking their wall of wines + food prep area; with couches and a 2nd bar… looks like a cool place to throw a party…

By the time we left, the place was packed and had velvet rope outside; a cop car was idling on the street; I could not figure out is it was for intimidation or protection… Either way it did not bother me…

I hope they succeed and stick around in SO… Oh, did I mention the really good looking… ;-D

I wonder how they list their job requirements.

I thought Dave said he wasn't going the 'include the tip route.' What happened?

Read carefully...the tip was not included, according to Hillsider.

A velvet rope? Yuck. This place sounds tacky.

I meet with a headhunter, uh, recruiter Thursday morning at the Parkwood Diner. It is none other than MOL's own BGS. Looking forward to it.

We went again yesterday. Food and drink were again up to high standards.

By-the-glass wines: I had not been in love with their house merlot the last time we visited. This time we tried the Oz Shiraz and it's excellent. (I didn't notice what vintage it was.)

The place was full, but not to capacity, on a Monday night. (It's one of the few games in town on Mondays)

The velevet rope does not come on until 11:00PM on weekends..So I am okay with it....As long as I don't have to wait to get into the place
