Let me start by saying I was thrilled when Voro opened. I love the look, feel, ambiance, menu, and the fact that there is nothing like it in this area. We've been there about 5 or 6 times...once for dinner and the remainder for drinks and/or light food. For dinner, the service was more than adequate. It was perfectly fine, professional and timely. All of our experiences in the lounge have been the opposite, but we have continued to go back because we like the atmosphere.

The other night I stopped in with a friend for some drinks and snacks. The lounge was about half full. We were approached fairly quickly and brought menus and ordered drinks. A champagne and a glass of white wine. They arrived, they were both warm. I don't mean cool, I mean warm. In about 10 minutes we were able to get the waitress and explained, and she said unfortunately it was a problem with the cooler and all of the wines and beers would be that temperature. OK, fine, the fridge is on the blink for the day. Things happen. But, shouldn't that be something they tell you upfront? Meanwhile, there is a fairly full dining room. Are people just drinking warm beer and wine? Perhaps. If this was truly the case, why not throw bottles of wine and a selection of beers in a big tub of ice behind the bar and at least offer some type of cold drinks. Moving on....so the waitress offers to make us a cold drink...we have a few mixed drinks which were fine....not what we were in the mood for, but fine. We ordered some tapas...which were delicious.

When it came time for the check I motioned over to the waitress/bartender for the check and she acknowledged. 20 minutes later, there is no check in site. My friend finally walked up to her at the bar and handed her a credit card. The waitress was making drinks and helping others, but there is no reason she couldn't take 10 seconds and walk the check over to us. We were sitting very close by. To me, this is unacceptable.

Overall, it was very difficult to get any servers attention (for napkins, to order a drink, get the check, etc.). And this has happened routinely. I know I know, why do I continue to go back? Maybe that was the last time. I don't know.

The owner was there, I saw him wandering around walking up and down the stairs. Not once did he walk through the lounge and eyeball what was going on or to make sure the guests were happy. I've never owned or managed a restaurant, so I'm sure everyone has different styles, but I would certainly want to be more involved than this.

I think I'm done venting, but I just feel this is such an unfortunate situation. I want to keep going back, but every visit turns into a frustrating night out, I'm not sure that it's worth it.

We are going tomorrow night. I am curious to see how it turns out. Hoepfully it will be a better experience than yours :-) They should have at least bought you a drink since the cooler was broken.

I am really sad to see this. I have reservations for a few weeks from now with friends and I had high hopes.

Keep high hopes for dinner. Many of the complaints I see seem to be about the bar. Those of us who eat a full meal in the dining room seem to be a happier lot, on the average

Very true. My experience in the dining room was 100% different than my times in the bar/lounge.

I know people have individual expectations but this does not qualify as "I am done with anything experience"

"every visit turns into a frustrating night out"

I don't know Flik, that kind of qualifies as a "I am done with it" experience in my book.

I haven't gone to Voro, but what I get from MOL is that it has it's very good aspects, and its not so good aspects. Certainly enough good things have been said to make me want to try it at least once or twice, but the not so good things keep me from walking in there with expectations that are too high.

Thanks for sharing your experience Cubeless!

I wanted to try to make a reservation at Voro for a quick bite before a movie tonight and it seems I have to call information. No phone number comes up w/Google search, and quite surprisingly, no listing under "Restaurants" on MOL!

Dave, I was under the impression that you had something to do with Voro - curious that it's not listed.

I have to say, FWIW, I have had the same experience as Cubeless with the wait staff in the lounge. It was very disappointing and frustrating because you really are expecting so much more.

We went on Friday night and had a great time. Started off in the bar with some drinks, had great service (we did sat at the bar) Then sat down to dinner, ordered a variety of tappas and had wonderful service. I can't wait to go back!

PDG, I added Voro to the restaurant directory.

FYI, if there isn't a restaurant listed in the directory - there's a link on the page to add one yourself:

Thanks Jamie! I didn't realize the restaurants listed weren't paying some sort of advert. fee. It would be nice to put the business listings on the SOV site too, don't you think?

Anyway, after one the above posts I checked out Voro's website (cool website, but is should come up when voro south orange is googled) and called them. They recommended not trying to do a quick meal before a movie - not enough time. We went after the movie for a drink and were impressed. Nice ambiance, very generous and tasty drink (cosmo), cool torches outside. I'll be back for a leisurely dinner soon!
