Meeting a friend, we'd like a tasty restaurant where it's possible to talk, within 4 blocks of the station. (I wanted La Isla, but it's too small/crowded.)

what time are you meeting? if its earlier rather than later, try to jump in a cab uptown Hoboken...you'll have more choices and maybe find one of the good early bird dinner deals. Havent been there in a long time, but the Brass Rail is a close walk to the train and might give you the atmosphere youre looking for.

Arthur's Steaks's is a great place with a pub feel to it. Its less than 4 blocks away its right on Wash. Street. Its affordable and it was ranked as the best steak by AOL City Guides. Check it out.

There's an excellent cuban place by the hospital (Zafra, 301 Willow). Arthur's is great, but I think the steaks really aren't very good, fatty and way too much gristle. The burgers, however, are huge and great. Add a a few pints of Bass and happiness ensues.

And of course, there's Leo's (200 Grand St.).

If it doesn't need to be fancy, Wolfgang Puck Express is a block from the train staion and it's yummy. They sell beer and wine, no liquor.

Along the water, about 3 blocks north of the train station there is a pub, and a block further up is a fancier restaurant. can't remember the names, sorry!

there's a great sushi place called Maru on Washington, probably a little more than 4 blocks. I am a huge fan of Cucharama, also further than 4 blocks. It's owned by the same woman who owns the aforementioned Zafra.

Near the train I like Oddfellas Rest on 80 Hudson St. Good cajun food, good beer selection and outdoor seating in the back.

earlster - I like oddfellows too, but it can be noisy....However, they have a great little garden dining area, so Deborah, if you go, ask to sit out back.
