Saw the previous thread on this but wanted other options. Dinner after movie, around 9:00pm tomorrow. Would like a place nicer than where we would take the kids. Been to Pal's, not interested this time. Right now what I am thinking is: Wish Antonella's Cafe Arugula Ekko Has to be pretty casual. Thoughts? |

For casual, how about Starlite Pizza on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange? For more upscale, how about Lulu's Bistro on Livingston Ave in Livingston? |

Some people like Mt. Fuji, not sure how it's looking these days.. it was a little run down the last time I went but I saw they've been doing construction. Will Smith ate there once! |

Well, Antonellas isn't exactly right around essex Green (though it's hardly "far") but the place is fantastic. You cannot have a bad meal there. I love it. |

I really think it would be perfect for you. I have been there in a suit and I have been there in jeans. It's a really small place, only a handful of tables. The food is exceptional (I consider it to be the best restaurant in South Orange for food quality), the people who own it are adorable, and the prices are very reasonable. It's a bit cheaper than Cafe Arugula. It's BYOB. You should make a reservation, however, as they really don't have that many tables. Go. You won't be disappointed. |

monty - we dined there for the first time last night. Their son Nicholo shared that they are expanding into the next space.. leaving the present dining space and just putting an archway into the adjoining room. I agree that it is without peer in SO Dining... very creative, fresh and delicious! |

Antonella's was a wonderful dining experience. Not your typical red sauce Italian, (though I'm sure they do that just fine), but much lighter and fresher. Being from Venice, seafood is their specialty. We also loved our salads and dessert. |

Oh, and Mt. Fuji was absolutely gross the one time we went there about 5 or so years ago. |

Thanks VIT. Yeah, Mt Fuji is not what I had in mind. Antonella's is on the way home so as long as I can get a reservation it should work out well. FYI for those who like hibachi, the Benihana in SH is closed for renovations. My coworkers kept wanting to go there and I was always pretty repulsed. Hopefully it will improve with the renoviations. |

You people are crazy. MT. Fuji is a quality establishment with the best salad dressing ever created. Expensive yes but I have never left that place not feeling fully satisfied. |

I agree with the negatives on Mt. Fuji. I love hibachi but I found the place very cramped and dirty. THe food was also not great - didn't seem fresh, the shrimp was very wilted. I wouldnt' go back again. I think the place in WO called Ekko does hibachi. |

Ekko is great! Leaves Mt Fuji in the dust. They have a Habachi, a Sushi Bar, and an Asain/French "regular" restaurant area. Habachi prices are similar to Mt Fuji. |
