My wife and I went to Los Tapatios last weekend and it is one of the better Mexican restaurants I have dined in on the East Coast. I think that it's better than Toro Loco.

The owner and his staff are very warm and friendly. We had an excellent shrimp & crab salad. I had their carne asada and my wife ordered individual tacos as our entrees. We were too stuffed to have dessert.

Unfortunately, it's a BYOB so you can't order a margarita, which would have been nice. All in all, I highly recommend this place.

actually you can dine in the bar next door and order food from the restaurant. We always enjoyed Los Tapatios. I don't know how noisy the bar gets

The bar can get loud. We sat in the back to get away from the smoke and have some drinks with dinner. The music was a little loud but the dancing was fantastic!

The address is 10 Main Street, W. Orange.

I stay away from the bar because I don't want to dine in a smoke-filled room.

We went there last night and found the food very bland. The service was great but the food was just missing flavor. Toro Loco's food is much better Most likely will not try again. Kelly

We really like Jose's Cantina in New Providence on South St. Their Oxi Shrimp are amazing. The whole fish is too.

Don Jose on Route 10 in East Hanover is pretty good, for those who like an old-fashioned (to my way of thinking) Mexican place.

I hunger for "real" mexican a la Zarela's or Rosa Mexicano in NYC or La SuperRica in Santa Barbara (ohhhh...!) but I despair for this in NJ.

Sac, when you say "old fashioned" what do you mean?

If it's the "velveeta and sour cream school" of "Mexican" food...

We go to Penang next door (GREAT) and came out last night to a group of at least 8 people smoking cigarettes outside Don Jose.

Eat well, all.

David

No ... I just mean the kind of food that you can (or used to be able to) get at the non-fancy Mexican joints in the southwest. It was always cheap and good, though not particularly good FOR you. (healthwise) I don't think there was any sour cream in sight, at least not in Texas, (although I don't mind sour cream on some dishes) ... just good old enchiladas, tamales, beans, rice, guacamole, etc. (There probably is some sour cream at Don Jose, actually, but it is the closest thing I've experienced to those restaurants I grew up with.)
