Recently about 3 or 4 people on MOL mentioned that they thought Antonella's was one of the best meals that SO has to offer. My wife and I knew it was popular but when we looked at the menu and the price we weren't inspired to try it. It just looked like an average NJ pasta place. By that I mean an overpriced pasta place that doesn't compare to a CHEAPY pasta place in the city (which is what we are used to). But you guys kept raving about it. So we went. The food was ok. Not bad at all. A few things we had were actually quite fine. Some of it was lack luster. I suspected that the reason why everyone agreed upon Antonellas was because it was pretty average and everyone could agree that it's pretty good food. And that is what I thought of it. Will I go back...? Well anything is possible, but I doubt it. |

Well, to be fair you have to tell us what you ate. My husband and I did not have pasta because that didn't seem to be a specialty. I can get good pasta at Trattoria. We loved our salads, our fish and our desserts.

True VIT... to be fair, Alley must share. We loved our dinners, but we also did not order pasta - which I'm sure is fine, but not what we look for when dining out. We orderd specials - musssels & clams to start, grilled scallops & shrimp drizzled with truffle oil, and a fish dish (the name escapes me, but it was great) The desserts were homemade & wonderful. |

I like the gnocchi there -very light, not doughy lumps like I've gotten at other restaurants. We happened to eat at Antonella's last night. I had the shrimp in sambuca sauce and my husband had the tuna special and both were delicious. We skipped dessert, so I can't comment about desserts. I've always enjoyed the food at Antonella's - if it is crowded, it can get a bit noisy, but the food has always been delicious. |

Yeah- I wouldn't spend the money getting pasta there. Fish is their specialty. But, we have a friend who doesn't do fish & always gets meat. We never leave without loving our meal. Desserts are really good, but we will walk over and have dessert at Arugula, because they are fantastic. American Fare in Maplewood is the other place with fabulous desserts. Alley -what did you have? |

I went last week with my boyfriend and we had a really good meal and nice time. We had the calamari appitizer, I had a chicken entre which was fabulous and he had a pasta dish, which he really liked. The portions were huge enough for us to have leftovers for lunch the next day and Antonella was very nice and hospitable. I will definitely go back. |

I have found the food to be consistently very good. I think it is great that we have such a high quality place in town, and only wish I could get there more often. |

Fine, I'll go back and try the fish. I wish someone would have told me that fish was their specialty when they were doing all that raving. Yeah I had pasta. Sue me. |

It's also very small, so you might want to call ahead for a reservation. Many times you can't get a table if you just walk in, especially on a Friday or Saturday. The style of cooking is Northern Italian/Venetian - lots of polenta, things like risi e bisi......... a bit different than the typical Italian restaurant. I've always enjoyed it, although I don't like polenta. Didn't even like it when my Genoese grandmother made it. My husband (from Piemonte) loves it and says it tastes just like his grandmother made. To each his/her own! |

Good news...Antonella's will soon be expanding so there will be additional tables and more opportunity for everyone to share in this true gem that we have in our town. Hopefully, the great food, great ambience & great personal service will not be affected at all. |

I couldn't agree more - it's absolutely outstanding food. If what you're expecting is industrial-grade, mozzarella-saturated "american-italian" food at Tony DiNapoli prices, this is not your place. If you want artisinal, high-quality, finely prepared real-deal northern italian food, then this is a perfect match. Bring a bottle or two of a good super-tuscan, you won't be sorry. We absolutely loved it. |
