If I understand the invitation correctly, it seems like they are inviting everybody to their Opening Celebration on 9/8/05 (Thursday) between 5:00-6:00PM. They were handing out invitations at the train station this evening to everyone getting off the train.
The invitation reads "a selection of sushi, hors d'oeuvres and refreshment will be served".
They are giving out free samples at the restaurant during the one hour time frame.
Been there, love their food and if anybody haven't been there yet, it's a good opportunity to sample their food.

Hmmm, not many people get home that early but I'll be around. Maybe I''ll take the opporunity to try them. It's a great idea.

The shrimp tempura rolls with eel sauce were really good.

I missed it Dave.

How about the uncooked stuff? Care to share your opinion?

It was good. Been there twice. Not a huge jump over other local sushi places, but the service is very good and the owners and chefs are very friendly, which goes a long way. Also there are two tatami rooms, which can accommodate 4-10 people at the table.

VIG bear in mind there is no kids menu. My six year old's Terriyaki meal was $18. Ouch.
Frankly I thought the food was only OK. Was a little grossed out too when my daughter's meal came out with a dead fly on it. They apologized profusely but still - ick.

In Japanese places my kids get miso soup, salad, rice, maybe share shrimp tempura. The 3yo loves shrimp and crab and the 9yo likes california rolls and a few other kinds of "beginner" sushi. We generally eat family style.

The fly though, that is disgusting.

Hate to be a buzz kill on a new place, but we had a fly incident at Ariyoshi too. We went last night and right under a tuna roll was a live fly. The fly flew off, but it was a real appetite killer. On the plus side, the staff handled our complaint quickly and courteously and the rest of the food was fine. But still...

Went there a couple of times already. They're pretty good. Hopefully they'll hang on.

Had lunch there today. Outstanding sushi. One minor annoyance was their credit card machine wasn't working. I'll make it a regular lunch visit if the machine gets fixed.

Ate there recently. Thought it was a step up from what's generally available out here. Fish was good, but the sushi rice was underseasoned and dried out. Better than Samarai, though. And a nice atmosphere. I'll definitely try it again.

Went their twice for lunch, and got take out for the family for dinner once.

The hostes remembered our lunch choice at the second time, they are very friendly and IMHO the dinner was the best sushi I have had around here.

So far this has been flaw (fly) less.

Sono also seems to have a new sushi chef and they have kicked it up a notch.

Now if any of the two would deliver, samurai could go packing.

Went to Ariyoshi last week. Thought the sushi was excellent, and everyone was quite pleasant. Delivery to Maplewood would be a huge plus.

No flies or other insects in my experience. That is revolting.

We went on Sat. and got to sit in the Tatami room with the girls (our girls that is, there weren't any of those kind of "girls") and we all had a very enjoyable meal. Mr. Shh and I shared the sushi for 2. I made sure to request a nice variety of fish, not just salmon and tuna which I often get lately. It was really good. Next time we decided the fish can stand on it's own and we'll get the sashimi for 2. The house salad and miso soup were very good. My eldest had two bowls of miso soup she loved it so much. The salad had nice greens and the dressing was better than the usual. The girls also shared a shrimp tempura dinner, and didn't eat much of it after all the soup, rice and salad but the piece I had was fine.
It was definitely a big notch above the other local places we have been to as of late.
