i just returned from breakfast and i could not have been more disappointed in the food or the service. my usual place for breakfast, the maple leaf was packed, i ventured across the street to cuisine of india.the service was medocre. a smile does not make up for poor service. anywho i order a simple breakfast, eggs overeasy, ham with home fries (or at least something they passed off as home fries) white toast with butter and coffee. simple yes? well the toast was unbuttered, no big deal but it was hard as a rock. the eggs were over hard and the ham was just ok. the coffee was good. along with the meal i also asked for water. which i really needed to wash down this, for lack of a better word, food. i had to ask for it 3 times. the place did seems to have a number of regulars who greeted the staff warmly but the place was far from crowded and i am not surprised. i am also sure or i hope that the chef had a bad day. the food, especially the home fries was terrible. heretofore i would stop in for coffee and it is fine, but no more for breakfast. i am still suffering for it now with excessive heartburn and other unmentionable byproducts of a nasty meal. someone please tell me i caught them on a bad day. |

Haven't had breakfast there in quite some time...The Village Coffee Shop (for those who are comfused by the Cuisine of India name)...I always liked their omelettes. Their potatoes are good to me because they are spicy, but if you're used to Maple Leaf home fries which are drier and plainer (more typical diner home fries) I could see how you might dislike them.

I love their omelettes. Their fries are on the spicy side, but this I like. I agree about the toast -- it usually comes out cold and their eggs are a hit or miss. The staff is pleasant and the place has a bright comfortable atmosphere, so I like going there once in a while. |

i love the atmosphere but the food leaves alot to be desired. the maple leaf is a typical diner, no doubt but i just found the food at the village coffee shop(my bad) lacking. by the way i have had some of their pastries and they are pretty good.... |

I'm not a fan of either the Mapleleaf or the Village Coffee Shop, but I believe that they get their cakes and such from Cait and Abby's, or at least they used to about 5 years ago. |

IMHO, the place is gross. After washing my hands in the restroom, I promised never to return. Quite frankly, I don't care how good the food is. I wonder what the kitchen looks like. |

That's my beef with the place. I've been in there a couple of times. The food was alright, but the place itself was a mess. Tables needed to be cleaned, floors swept, garbage can empty. The thing is the place was slow and it's not like the workers were occupied doing other things. I don't understand how someone who runs a restaurant would put up with it. I'd love to like the place, but until they get their act together I'll take my money elsewhere. |

I totally disagree w/the negative remarks about Village Coffee. I go to there for brunch at least 2-3 times per month and the service/food is always consistent. Eggs are cooked the way that I order them and they serve delish turkey bacon (almost impossible to find a place that is not all pork-laden.), and home-fries are tasty, spicey, browned and not greasy. It is so hard to find "clean" food around here and this place does a nice job |

I always find it so loud in Village Coffee Shop, but if I want a coffee in town - that's where I go. The food is pretty nice and they have lots of seating too. Its a better atmosphere than a diner. |

the place is kid friendly - hence IMO messy... but thats OK... Food id not too bad, what can you expect from an inexpensive local diner like place? Service is excellent... I have been there many times on weekends and there are families with small kids... these kids want to eat on their own and are messy... the restaurant is OK with it so are most of the patrons... If you want a clean, kid unfriendly place, go to Gaslight

gee i never thought the place was all that messy. i actually think it is kind of clean. my problem is just with the quality of food. at least their breakfast menu. the rest may be very good but since i am turned off by the breaksfast fare, i won't even give it a chance to redeem itself. |

My feeling is, it's called the Village Coffee Shop, not the Village Diner. They are a coffeehouse that happens to serve food. The coffee is pretty good, and they have an excellent assortment of flavors and coffee drinks (cappuccino, latte, etc.) For food, I'd go elsewhere...though I am curious to try their actual Indian cuisine. |
