It will be our 7th anniversary Oct 10th and Hubby and I were talking about a weekend away. So, I'm at a loss for where to go, we're looking for r&r, not sight seeing-a spa perhaps. Not too far or too expensive. Impossible? Not for MOL'ers, they know all the best places. Please help me find a nice getaway, vacation included step kids, my Mom and Hubby's best friend.. fun? Yes, a 'vacation' for me? No, now's MY time. All help apprecieated. |

How about the Hudson Valley? Sightseeing at the Vanderbilt Mansion and FDR's place, meals at various CIA resturants, stay at a lovely B&B, maybe a trip to a winery. I'm sure there's a spa in Rheinbeck. Our 5th anniversary is a couple weeks after yours. We're going to foist the kid onto my parents and go into the city a day and night. Check out the Photo/Occult show at the Met, dinner at the new Bobby Flay place, stay over at a hotel and sleep ten hours straight! (At 8 months pregnant, my priorities change.) |

We absolutely loved our recent tenth anniversary stay at the Copperhood Inn & Spa, just outside Woodstock. The proprietor Elizabeth led meditation, long hikes through the woods and there was a daily yoga class plus full spa and fitness facilities. Rates include 3 meals (set menu but you can tell them of any dietary restrictions or dislikes). Very quiet, personalized service. It was lovely. Supposedly fall is the most beautiful time to go. (If yu go to Spa Finders you can access their website and they might even have specials.) |

Cape May, NJ. Beautiful (and quieter) this time of year. Great restaurants. Spectacular B&B's. Evening strolls on the beach. Sightseeing or not. We recently took a great trip on a dolphin watch boat around Cape May, and actually saw tons of dolphins. Thrilled the pants off me, but I realize it may not be everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for spa services, I've no doubt they can be found. Our favorite, favorite B&B: The Mainstay. Really wonderful front porch with rocker's for people watching and, if I remember correctly, there's even a hammock or two for a nice nap! Check the website for special package deals. www.mainstayinn.com Our two favorite restaurants: 410 Bank Street http://www.capemaytimes.com/Restaurants/cape-may/410bank.htm Frescos http://www.capemaytimes.com/Restaurants/cape-may/frescos.htm |

Thanks, we spent vacation at Lake George, as usual, and Hubby doesn't like the shore in Jersey. A spa would be great! But we hike/sail/kayak a lot, so maybe we're looking for some pampering and good food. Now, I'm getting confused. This shouild be easy...good food, massage, hot tub, servants, pink sand beach....Oops, sorry I lapsed into a daydream. |

I'd go to RI, maybe Watch Hill Inn or somewhere nearby. We'ce been thinking about escaping to New Hope for the night -- have no clue what goes on there at night but there's this pretty little restaurant on a side street with an outdoor bar which I'd love to go to. Cooperstown? I'm not one for spas and such. I'd like to go somewhere that we can hike or wander around or take a drive or see a band or something. Hmmm, our 11th anniversary is just weeks away and since our 10th we ended up at Bunny's ... I deserve a weekend away. |

Quebec City, in one of the smaller hotels, still with a river view, down from the Chateau Frontenac. Or even better the Gaspe Peninsula, farther north in Quebec. This time of year= quieter, not many tourists, stunning autumn colors beginning, brisk days and cool nights, excellent fresh foods in local restaurants and bistrots. Quebec City is an easy weekend. Gaspe takes a bit more time. |

Saratoga Springs is nice. You can stay at one of a number of beautiful B&Bs. There are several spas there - Lincoln Baths & Crystal Spa are a couple off the top of my head. GREAT restaurants in town, including a wine bar if you're into that. If you like music, there are often local bands playing in the restaurants or bars, but you're also not far from Troy music hall or Proctor's Theatre. With summer over, I don't think Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC)is open, but it might be. The main racing season is over, but you can still see harness racing if you like. They also serve dinner at the harness track. Ate there once - I think it was pretty good (and convenient if that's what you're planning on doing that night). Saratoga is a great place to just stroll around, go to a spa, pop into stores, enjoy wonderful food and music. It's also only a 3 1/2 hour drive from Maplewood. www.saratoga.org |

LilLB I can make that drive in 3 hours if we don't stop for the bathroom! Any thoughts about New Hope, PA? Kind of a neat town on the Delaware ... probably ample opportunities for hiking and kayaking with good restaurants available as well. I've never stayed there but it's got a number of B&Bs. |

we go to New Hope/Lambertville a lot -- we park at the brewery, have some beer samples and walk over the bridge. On the NJ side you can take walks on the canal and visit the River Horse Brewery for samples. Octoberfest is there on 10/8 and 9 (I think). I think for a night away this is where we'd go. |

Well, I love Bucks Co, but we're actually from there and have a cottage 10 miles further up the river from New Hope. So, it's actually not a 'vacation', and I do love my new kakyak!! I'm really thinking sun and beach- I've found some pretty good deals in the caribbean. |

Bill - I think it usually takes about 3 coming home, but longer going there - doesn't make any sense, but I probably make a bathroom stop on the way up... The mention of PA made me think of Jim Thorpe, PA. Just spent a few hours there last Fall, but REALLY cute old town and it's in the Poconos, so you could visit other areas. http://www.jimthorpepa.com/ |

There is a place I always wanted to try called the Sterling Inn in Pennsylvania. It's a non pocono mtn, pocono mtn retreat. It has a sister property I think called the French Chateau which is supposed to have great food. Also, possibly Skytop also in Pennsylvania or Mohunk Mountain House in New York. |

Sterling Inn is nice -- breakfast and lunch are included. I recall having a nice duck dinner and blueberry pancakes for breakfast. We rented a boat nearby and tooled around a nearby lake for the afternoon -- this was also pre-kid, about 7 years ago. |

We went to Sterling Inn for a wedding 3 years ago...brought the then 6 week old with us. Rooms were teensy, and well, didn't feel quite private enough. The wedding was held outside at the French Manor, it was nice. (What I recall). Wouldn't necessarily be on my list of places to go though, it was ok, not fabulous. |

we're celebrating our one year anniversary 10/10-10/12 at Mohonk Mountain House. It's the perfect time of year for leaf-peeping and hiking. It's a little pricey, more than I wanted to spend. We compared it to Copperhood based on VIT's recommendations and it was hard to choose. We went for Mohonk because Notehead is a pickier eater than I am and Copperhood has a more limited menu. (it's also an eensy bit more money that Mohonk) good luck and, happy anniversary! |

Mohonk Mountain House! We've gone regularly because it is only 90 miles or so from here. Once there, you can forget about the car until time to go home! It is pricey, but when you consider it includes all gourmet quality meals and many activities, plus absolute escape from your problems, it's a bargain. No TV unless you need a fix and then you can go to the lounge area. Food is great. We're heading up again next month. Looking forward to seeing the new indoor swimming pool/spa. |

If you find yourself landing in New Hope there's a very romantic French restaurant on River Rd. called the Inn at Philips Mill. Here's a review, but I like the terrance room, described, the least. http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/193-12112003-211753.html There are cozier rooms for dining. One night we even spent the night there sort of by accident. It was a bit noisy and perhaps too rustic room-wise (i.e., cold and creaky), but a such pleasure to drink and eat your fill, climb the stairs and go to sleep. |

Another for Mohonk--which, as Pippi knows, is just a favorite of our household (and holds a special place in my family). It certainly isn't cheap, but it includes all meals and is an experience you will NEVER forget; not to mention, they just opened a new wing with a spa/indoor pool; my parents were just there and said the new wing makes a great place even more fantastic; we're headed back there for New Years, and I can't wait. Glad to hear you're going Pip---you and the beau will have a blast, no doubt. Best of luck to you Mrs. T; wherever you go I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Do you like going to wineries? For our 10th anniversary my husband and I went to the northfork of Long Island. We stayed at a wonderful bed and breakfast in Centerport and visited some wineries. The bed and breakast was great and the owner provides great spa treatments. If you are interested I can get the name of the B & B for you. There were also great restaurants in the area and that part of LI does not get as crowded as the Hamptons on the south shore. Lots of peace and quiet. |
