The Reservoir (South Orange Ave) has awesome pizza and they deliver. It's even better at home than it is in the resturant! It travels very well and it's my favorite!

Arturo's Brick Oven Pizzeria in Maplewood Village has all kinds of yummy topping choices. My absolute favorite is the Mexicana. It has hot peppers, cheddar cheese, green peppers and a bunch of other yummy stuff I can't remember. Make sure you get it on TRADITIONAL crust, as the thin crust doesn't stand up to all the toppings. Another good one is the Greco. It's got pesto, pine nuts and feta cheese--YUMMY. And they deliver. (973) 378-5800 180 Maplewood Ave Maplewood, NJ 07040 |

Bunny's pizza is just tooo limp for me. It's soggy and not crisp. Roman Gourmet is great but they don't deliver. For delivery, Reservoir hands down! Tony Salad (and Billy) are also the best. |

This is said from a person who accepts pizza for the children's summer reading program. You would think a maven is more learned. Bunny's Jersey Tomato pizza is my favorite, but then again I like the paradise pizza with the three cheese combination. I'd suggest you sample the variety of yummy selections in the two-towns. BTW: We do Kid's Birthday parties as well. We have never had a disappointed youngster..... OXOXO

Bunny's pizza is very crisp!! I have not found the same crunchy and delicious pizza anywhere else, although one came close in Provence in the South of France. All of our restaurants are good, but different from each other. I like Reservoir, too. I can find something to compliment about all of our restaurants. I must protest this cycle of negativity towards the business district. The person who started this post was looking for POSITIVE feedback. South Orange Maven: Many people on this board have praised the pizza at Bunny's. I can accept that it is not your favorite pizza or pizza place. That is OK. There are other good pizzerias here, too, but to say that their pizza is limp and soggy? That remark could only have been meant to unfairly disparage the business. Did you complain to your server? Because if you had, I am certain that the owners would have immediately provided another pizza to your specifications. By the way, when did this happen? Was it years ago? |

Huh. I didn't read SOM's post that way. Unless there is a backstory I'm not in on, I interpreted it to mean that SOM doesn't like Bunny's pizza. He gave his reason. Now, disparaging would have been to state that the pizza is awful and the people there suck. Bunny's has a mucho huge (and well-deserved) fan base online and around the area. Me among them; I have never had a bad pie at Bunny's. More than that, I adore their pizza (and sweet potato fries and garlic salad and.....). Whenever I go in with the intention of trying something new on the menu, I end up with the pizza. Or ordering something else and eating that and some pizza. But, it is possible, I suppose, that there is one person (maybe even two) out there who don't like Bunny's. BTW - Elaine - I will take you up on your challenge to say something positive about any restaurat around: the Sage Diner before it closed? And easy parking doesn't count! |

Greenetree: I love challenges, but the Sage Diner is no longer in existence, and it isn't fair to speak ill about the departed. However, I did visit the Park Wood, and they go out of their way to make people happy. For their sake, I wish they had a better sign design. Other than that, what's not to like? They should do very well. I think I have been in almost every diner in New Jersey. I like when they are small and more personal, like this one. But in general, Jersey girls like diners. |

I think that Roman Gourmet is probably the worst pizza in the area. The last time I went there (maybe about 8 or 9 months ago) I ordered 2 slices, and ended up throwing one of them out. I haven't been back since then. The other place I dislike is the place on Ridgewood Rd. The name escapes me at the moment. I ordered pizza from them 1 time. I never will again. Other than that we live in a pretty good area from getting pizza. |

I don't like Bunny's because last time I was there I had to Febreeze my entire body. The smoke is disgusting. Couldn't get past that to enjoy the food. I like Trattoria's eggplant parm pizza. The kids like the baked ziti pizza. |

I think that pizza is definitely a subject of individual tastes. You will never get a unanimous opinion on which pizza is best because there is no right or wrong answer. Pizzaz is right - you should try the various offerings, several of which are mentioned here, and you will probably find a favorite. |

Let me see..EH thinks that Bunny's pizza is better than any she has any had anywhere tho a place in the South Of France came close. The Mayor says awful, terrible things about 2 eating establishments in the community (neither of which is Bunny's). SOM gets slammed for an honest comment, the Mayor gets a by. Fair and balanced..... Oh, and Pizzaz, you attempt at "outing" me is soooo far off the mark. And against MOL rules, I believe. But, then again, you don't have to worry about that little detail.

South Orange Maven, you are correct that other posters made negative comments and no one commented, but you are taking this too personally. I think CageyD, Mayor and MSG are also wrong to put the derogatory restaurant comments on this board. However, I do not watch this board every day so their comments were not read by me until tonight, hence the "BY" was simply not knowing. It is unfair to make these remarks because there are no controls and the persons making the remarks are anonymous. Gleason's Cleaners has a slogan above its counter: "If you like our service tell your friends, and if you don't like our service, tell us." That is the fair and decent thing to do. Business owners are not always aware of the actions of employees, etc. If there is a problem, tell them. Otherwise, positive praise of businesses that deserve it will bring the best result. |

Heh, It's just pizza and if Bunny's makes the finest crispy crusted tomato basil pie in town, so what? Take the politics elsewhere. I'm also psyched about the new pizza place opening in Maplewood any day now. Enjoy the Joy of Pi.

Maven, Why the anger with me? What did I do? All I said was that I didn't like the pizza at two stores. I didn't mention Bunny's, and said that other than those two places, this is a pretty good area for pizza. I'm sorry if my "awful, terrible" comments upset you. But that doesn't change the fact that while I enjoy pizza, I don't enjoy it from everywhere. |

Able to forsee the Future Of Food, I risk major thread drift to alert all: I predict that a new frankfurter emporium will soon open on Bloomfield Avenue in the town of Verona:
Now, back to the subject at hand... While those of Us on the Astral Plane generally suggest that mortals eschew pizza (as well as most other cheese & dairy-related food items, due to their phlegm-inducing qualities), I myself do admit to occasionally enjoying the random slice... When visiting SO/MA, my personal preferences include: *Pirate's Pizza: Extra Cheese, pre-loaded with extra-liberal sprinklings of oregano and dried red pepper... *Reservoir Pizza: Pepperoni-topped and allowed to cool, then reheated at 475 degrees for two minutes... *Arturo's Pizza: Primo Parma, with an olive in the middle... *Roman Gourmet: White pizza with spinach... *Village Trat: Buffalo Chicken Pizza... Here in my chosen retirement locale (Boca), my high praise goes to ZEMI, located in Boca Ctr, 5050 Town Center Circle, for both its sophisticated ambience and its most excellent pies (also, a nice wine list!)... Go in peace. --The Oracle of MOL

The Roman Gourmet is absolutely incredible. Everybody that works there is extremely pleasant and nice. The place is spotless, and everything I have ever ordered from there I have loved. They catered my Anniversary and everybody there loved their food. They have 10% off cards which is amazing. All you have to do is ask for them, they're free. They have multiple shelves of pizza to choose from, i'de say about 15 pies or so. Try the Stuffed Baked Ziti Pizza or lasagna. If you're a pasta lover, you will fall in love this. The subs and salads are prepared beautifully. The Roman Gourmet is located next to the theatre .. it is definately the place to be. }} |

See other threads before heeding Diane Smith's touting of Roman Gourmet...it's pretty transparent that he/she is connected to Roman Gourmet- I mean the post reads like an ad - but you'll see in other thread Diane "sour grapes" Smith is maligning Roman Gourmet's competition, particularly a new one - Frank's Trattoria - on Valley Street near 5th St in SO, same side as Pathmark, yellow sign, Frank being a Roman Gourmet alumnus. Clearly Frank is a major loss for Roman Gourmet as Diane Smith aka someone at or close to Roman Gourmet is feeling heightened competitive pressure from his new place and all the other entrenched competitors. I've never been and now will never go to Roman Gourmet (see Diane's venomous post in other thread), but to someone who for the first time tried one of Frank's pies this weekend and watched him interact with a few customers, it seems like Frank had a lot to do with what people used to like about the Roman Gourmet.

Diane's agenda is very cagey too. Imagine trying to drive customers to her restaurant by responding to a post inquiring about pizza! The nerve of her. I sure hope her post doesn't "backfire". OOOOOoooo! Scary! If her food is good then her business will survive. If it isn't... maybe the Pizza Primo guy can help when he gets out. Should the original poster requested only positive comments? Would that have helped? I really enjoyed seeing a simple plea for pizza recommendations turning into the usual infighting. Take a look at yourselves. Lighten up folks. It's just pizza. BAU at MOL.

Have been to Frank's twice. Once it was lousy (which I posted about), the other time it was very average. Met Frank both times, and he is clearly above average -- incredibly nice guy. Alas, I go for the food, not the banter, and since we have twice as many pizza joints as nail salons in our two towns, seems like you need a little something extra to stick out from the crowd these days. I think it's hard to beat Arturo's on that front.

Arturos is wood fired pizza like they have in italy. Have you been throughout italy and tasted the pizzas in the various regions? You will never find buffalo wings or baked ziti on top of authentic italian pizza. Pizza is all about ones personal taste and I love those wood fired ovens. Dont say they know nothing about pizza- thats not right. |

WOW I am actually impressed at the controversy over pizza. But pizza is a personal issue everywhere. I have found that if you ask 20 people where the best pizza is you will hear 20 different answers. Here is my review for what it is worth. 1) Star tavern in Oranage for thin crust is #1 2) all around good new york/brooklyn pizza Rays on bloomfield ave Verona 3)good all around but salty Reservoir in South Orange the best sausage pie I have ever had. 4)brick oven but no consistency Arturos all locations 5)Cheapest deal around Bunnys buffet great price just OK pizza 6)greasy pizza Roman gourmet maplewood |
