Any idea where I can find good Brazilian food that's closer than Newark? (But hey, good places in Newark sound nice, too;) |

Try La Em Casa in Hillside. It's a buffet place, very simple, but their Brazilian dishes are fine. Nearby are a couple of Brazilian cafes that serve really good chourico and strong galaos. Still, the best Brazilian is in Newark and in Elizabeth. |

La em Casa is NOT good Brazilian food. I used to go there is I was desperate and did not feel like going to Newark but stopped going since the quality has really gone down hill. In Newark the best Rodizio place is Boi Na Brasa they have two locations, one on Adams St. and the other on Merchant. I prefer Merchant. For sweets and snacks (sandwiches, pastel, kibe etc) you can try Casa Pao de Queijo also on Adams but I hear they now have other locations. X-Crepe I cant remember the street but I have a ham a cheese crepe that was amazing and for desert 3 of us split a banana and doce de leite crepe and it was to die for. On 22 there is Rt 22 BBQ or Rei da Picanha, I dont care for them but I know many Brazilians who think it is just fine. |

Exmaplewood, thank you. I haven't been to La Em Casa in a while. Their food used to be good quality for the price. I agree about Boi na Brasa and have found Galeto's in Kearny very good, but that gets us past Newark. I've tried Tapajos River in Newark twice and found it good. None of these is a first class facility. They are clean establishments that serve what I respectfully call common Brazilian (and some Portuguese) dishes for ordinary people. |

If you find a good brazilian place for non ordinary people please let me know. The only so called high end places I have been to is in NYC however the way they season their food is more for the american clientele... so therefore not one of my favorite places except for the live music. Plataforma in NY is a perfect example.
